Job Description

The Bench Technician performs repair, overhaul, and testing activities within a certified FAR 145 repair station environment. This role focuses on troubleshooting avionics and electronic components to board and component level, ensuring all work complies with the Repair Station Quality Control Manual, Component Maintenance Manuals, and applicable 14 CFR aviation regulations. The technician certifies products for return to service, maintains accurate documentation, and supports the quality of work performed across the bench operations.

Responsibilities

• Perform repair and overhaul duties in accordance with the Repair Station Quality Control Manual, Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs), and all applicable 14 CFR aviation regulations.
• Troubleshoot electronic and avionic equipment to the component and board level, identifying and resolving faults efficiently.
• Inspect incoming parts and review supporting documentation such as FAA Form 8130-3 and Certificates of Conformance to verify accuracy and compliance.
• Inspect, test, and troubleshoot electronic assemblies using standard bench test equipment to ensure proper operation.
• Diagnose, test, repair, and prepare products for return to service, including certifying the conformity of products to required standards.
• Complete test results, teardown reports, traceability records, and return-to-service documentation, including FAA Form 8130-3 (when applicable) and Certificates of Conformance.
• Ensure the quality of work performed by non-certified technicians, providing guidance and oversight as needed.
• Read and interpret technical schematics, drawings, manuals (including CMMs), work instructions, wiring diagrams, and wiring schematics to perform accurate repairs.
• Use typical electronics bench test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, soldering irons, and power supplies to conduct testing and repairs.
• Perform wiring, wire harness assembly, and soldering work in accordance with established standards and best practices.
• Utilize PCs and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook) for documentation, reporting, and communication.
• Navigate computer systems and websites required for technical data access, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
• Undergo recurrent training on at least an annual basis to maintain competency in troubleshooting, component-level electronics repair, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Skills

• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Ability to read technical schematics, drawings, manuals (including CMMs), work instructions, wiring diagrams, and wiring schematics.
• Proficiency using typical electronics bench test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, soldering irons, and power supplies.
• Proficiency with a PC and Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Strong computer and website navigation skills for accessing technical data and documentation.
• 5+ years of experience in electronics or avionics installation and repair.
• Experience reading Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs), drawings, and schematics.
• General knowledge of FAA requirements for a FAR 145 repair station.
• Ability to perform component-level troubleshooting of electronic and avionic equipment.
• Strong skills in electronics repair, including soldering, wiring, and wire harness work.
• Ability to follow detailed work instructions and adhere to quality and regulatory standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Commercial or military flight avionics experience preferred.
• Experience with emergency locator transmitters (ELTs) is highly desired.
• Associate’s degree in electronics or equivalent military training.
• Experience working with aviation original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) is a plus.
• Exp in bench technician work, avionics, and electronics production environments.
• Familiarity with aviation documentation such as FAA Form 8130-3 and Certificates of Conformance.
• Comfort working with schematics and wiring diagrams in an avionics context.

Work Environment

This position operates in a bench-based electronics and avionics repair station environment, working Monday through Friday from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You will work at an electronics bench using equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, soldering irons, power supplies, and PCs. The work involves detailed inspection, testing, and repair of components in accordance with FAR 145 repair station standards and aviation regulations, with a focus on precision, documentation accuracy, and adherence to established quality control procedures.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Lauderdale, FL.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
