Driver's License Examiner I The Driver’s License Examiner (DLE) is part of Service Oklahoma (SOK), a state agency dedicated to easing the navigation of government services by providing driver license and motor vehicle services. The role is full‑time with an annual rate of $43,680.00. Responsibilities Conduct driver‑license interviews, visual, written, and road examinations, and vehicle inspections to determine eligibility and qualifications for driver’s licenses or state identification cards in compliance with state and federal regulations. Interview applicants, review, inspect, and verify the legality of qualification documents to confirm identity and eligibility. Advise applicants regarding reasons an application cannot be accepted and procedures to resolve disqualifying issues, including providing expert testimony on medical disqualifications. Evaluate medical, physical, or mental information provided by applicants to determine requirements for waivers or restrictions, and advise on waiver procedures. Perform in‑depth vehicle safety inspections of vehicles, buses, and commercial vehicles, and administer vision, written, pre‑trip, and skills tests as appropriate. Administer tests and evaluate applicant performance to determine knowledge, safety, and compliance with state and federal laws, and advise on areas of improvement. Maintain driver‑license records while ensuring confidentiality and security in compliance with legal requirements. Assist the Legal Division in gathering evidence for potential legal action on fraudulent applications. Respond to inquiries from motor license agents, law enforcement agencies, and the public about laws and procedures, and recommend changes in driver‑license policies. Conduct interviews and hearings (formal and informal) concerning suspensions, revocations, restrictions, modifications, temporary licenses, and other issues; review accident reports; render final decisions; issue orders and complete required forms. Proctor CDL exams (subject to Certified Commercial Knowledge Examiner certification). Provide training to lower‑level staff at assigned or nearby locations. Review and approve timesheets for assigned team, identify issues, notify employees to correct them, and approve accurate submissions. Qualifications LevelI: Bachelor’s degree in any field, or four (4) years of technical clerical office work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. LevelII: Minimum qualifications for LevelII plus Certified Commercial Knowledge Examiner (CCKE) certification. Lead: Minimum qualifications for LevelI plus at least six months of experience in the Product & Experience division, plus CCKE certification. Preferred: Previous customer service experience, familiarity with DMV processes and procedures, and proficiency in typing at least 50wpm with minimal errors. Knowledge of state and federal laws regarding driving privileges, physical requirements, exemptions, issuance of licenses, commercial vehicle safety, and interviewing principles. Ability to conduct interviews, inspect and evaluate motor vehicles, operate all types of motor vehicles, administer written and performance tests, verify authenticity of identification documents, communicate effectively, use computers, and touch‑type. LevelII & Lead: Ability to oversee work of lower‑level employees and to perform highly complex independent work for all classes of motor vehicles and licensing. Lead: Knowledge and understanding of time and leave management. Special Requirements Schedule may vary and require flexibility, including early or late shifts, weekends, and occasional overtime. Work location may vary; occasional travel may be required; willingness and ability to perform all job‑related travel. Valid Oklahoma driver license required; reliable transportation may be needed for local travel. Position is in a storefront setting with a moderate noise level dependent on customer traffic. Ability to stand up to eight hours a day and lift 10–50 pounds on a regular basis, with assistance as needed.
