Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

We are seeking experienced Registered Nurses to join our Labor and Delivery team. The unit features:

• 10 Labor & Delivery beds
• 4 OB Emergency Department (Triage beds)
• 4 Antepartum rooms
• 2 Operating Rooms
• 20 Mother/Baby beds with an emphasis on couplet care

Minimum Experience Requirement

Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience or 2 years of Postpartum/GYN experience. First-time travelers are welcome to apply.

Patient Population

The unit caters to a diverse range of pregnant patients, including both high-risk and low-intervention cases. Responsibilities may involve:

• Care for patients with complex conditions such as pre-eclampsia, hypertension, and magnesium sulfate infusions
• Management of postpartum and newborn care with a focus on couplet care
• Occasional care for simple gynecological post-surgical patients, such as hysterectomies and ovarian cysts

Nurse-to-Patient Ratios

• Antepartum: 1:3
• Inactive Labor: 1:2
• Active Labor: 1:1
• Postpartum/Couplet care: Generally 1:3 couplets (may flex to 1:4 with a NICU mom)
• NICU Feeder/Grower groups: 1:3
• Pediatrics: Up to 1:5

Qualifications

• Required certifications: BLS, NRP
• Preferred certifications: Stable, CBC
• If Labor & Delivery trained: ACLS, certification in inpatient obstetrics, electronic fetal monitoring, or inpatient antepartum experience
• Experience caring for couplets and gynecological surgical patients
• Proficiency in IV starts, phlebotomy, magnesium sulfate and blood administration, and insulin drips
• If L&D trained, ability to circulate C-sections and provide recovery care

Support and Resources

The unit is staffed with a comprehensive support team, including:

• Registered Nurses with experience in least Level 2 nursery care
• Nurse Aides
• IBCLC lactation nurses
• Vascular access team and respiratory therapists available 24/7
• An OB physician team, anesthesia/CRNA support, and scrub techs to assist RNs

Orientation and Scheduling

All travelers can expect to float to various departments as needed, including Labor & Delivery, NICU, Pediatrics, and PICU. Orientation will cover both the facility and unit specifics.

Shift times: 12-hour shifts (0630/1830 and 1830-0630), with a requirement to work both nights and days throughout the contract.

Weekend Rotation: Typically every other weekend, with adjustments made based on staff preferences.

Holiday Expectations: Availability as needed during holiday periods.

Approval of Time Off: Subject to manager's approval.
