Tusk Ventures helps early stage tech startups win the political and regulatory fights that determine whether great companies succeed. We work with founders who are building businesses in industries where changing the law, influencing regulators or beating incumbents is just as important as building a great product. Our team combines political strategy, communications, regulatory expertise and campaign thinking to help companies enter new markets and change the rules that stand in the way of growth. The role. The companies we work with are taking on entrenched interests, changing outdated regulations, creating new regulatory frameworks and navigating complicated political environments. Good communications or good policy alone won't get them there. Winning means building campaigns that put pressure in the right places, get the right people moving and change the outcome. You'll work directly with founders, executives and the Tusk Ventures team to build and run those campaigns across industries including AI, healthcare, fintech, gaming and energy. Some fights move fast. Others take months. All of them require creativity, strong instincts and knowing what actually moves decision makers. There usually isn't a playbook for these fights. Your job is to figure out how to win anyway. This role reports to the President of Tusk Ventures. This is not a policy focused job and we are not looking for policy people. We’re looking for campaign people. What you’ll do. Design campaigns that influence policymakers, regulators, industry leaders and the public. Develop campaign strategies that combine communications, coalition building, grassroots organizing, research, paid and digital media and political strategy. Figure out where leverage exists, identify what will move the conversation and build campaigns around those pressure points. Work directly with founders and executives to help them become effective public advocates for their companies. Shape campaign strategy from the earliest client conversations through execution. Find creative opportunities to generate momentum through media, partnerships, conferences, podcasts, events and unexpected alliances. Run multiple campaigns at once and make honest calls about where your time matters most. Serve as a strategic partner to the President on campaigns across the firm's portfolio. What we’re looking for. At least five years of experience leading or helping lead political, advocacy, ballot initiative or public affairs campaigns. A track record of winning tough fights and delivering meaningful results. Someone who thinks like a campaign manager, not a project manager. You know how to identify what matters, build a strategy, adapt when the landscape changes and keep people moving toward the goal. Exceptional writing skills, whether you're drafting talking points for a founder, messaging for the public or briefing senior decision makers. Strong political instincts and sound judgment. You know what moves decision makers, where to apply pressure and when to change course. Comfortable working directly with founders and senior executives, earning their trust and giving candid strategic advice. Able to manage multiple fast-moving campaigns at once and make smart decisions under pressure. Curious enough to get up to speed quickly on new industries, regulatory environments and complicated policy issues. Experience bringing together communications, policy, coalition building, grassroots organizing, government affairs or other campaign tactics into one coordinated strategy. You don't need venture capital experience. Some of the strongest candidates for this role may come from politics, government, advocacy or issue campaigns. What you’ll get from us. The pay range for this position is expected to be between $150,000 and $195,000/year. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, market factors, and network.
