Position: Bus Mechanic Position Summary Under the direct supervision of the Head Mechanic, the Bus Mechanic is responsible for assisting in the maintenance, inspection, and repair of school buses and other district vehicles. Position: Bus Mechanic Position Summary Under the direct supervision of the Head Mechanic, the Bus Mechanic is responsible for assisting in the maintenance, inspection, and repair of school buses and other district vehicles. This position supports daily transportation operations by ensuring all vehicles are safe, reliable, and compliant with applicable regulations. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of school bus engines, transmissions, brakes, and related mechanical systems
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections in accordance with NJDOT and district schedules
- Assist with disassembly and reassembly of engines and major components
- Inspect, service, and repair tires, including mounting and balancing as needed
- Perform routine servicing including oil changes, lubrication, and fluid checks
- Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and work orders
- Assist with fueling, lubricating, and maintaining shop equipment and supplies
- Support troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical issues
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Mechanic
- Working knowledge of mechanical tools, equipment, and safety practices
- Basic understanding of diesel engines and automotive systems preferred
- Ability to use and learn diagnostic and repair equipment
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Strong attention to detail and recordkeeping skills
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Criminal History approval from the state of New Jersey
- Valid New Jersey Driver's License required
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements required or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe
- Hourly Rate: $29.00 per hour
- Position is 12-month, full-time , with eligibility for overtime, benefits, and pension in accordance with district policy and contractual agreements
