Job Details Level: Experienced • Job Location: Oakland or Los Angeles - CA • Position Type: Full Time • Education Level: 4 Year Degree • Salary Range: $83,153.88 • Travel Percentage: Up to 25% • Job Shift: Day • Job Category: Education Position Description Job Title: Lead Career Counselor Classification: Exempt Department: Regions outside of California Reports to: Assistant Director, Regional Programs About the Education Fund The Education Fund is a non‑profit partnership between six Locals of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and 22 Healthcare Industry employers, serving the education and training needs of 100,000 eligible workers. Our mission is to empower our diverse healthcare workforce to advance in a changing environment through innovative education and training solutions. The program and budget have doubled in scale over the last five years, providing career advancement and continuing education services to 20,000 learners annually, and we are positioned for continued growth with new partners and funding. Principal Purpose of Job Provides career and education counseling to SEIU members located in Oregon, Washington, Nevada and Colorado interested in advancing in the healthcare field, and facilitates the implementation of education and training programs for healthcare workers represented by SEIU UHW‑West and other union members eligible for Education Fund services. Lead Job Functions Serve as a resource to new staff by supporting their onboarding and training under the supervision of the director(s). Facilitate and provide opportunities for new staff to shadow responsibilities for their respective role. Demonstrate service excellence and the Education Fund culture in all interactions. Essential Job Functions Bilingual (Spanish Preferred). Provide guidance in Career, Education, and Job Readiness Counseling, Coaching, and Case Management to a diverse caseload of learners with various barriers. Assess interests, educational background, and career goals of eligible members, and advise on steps to achieve those goals. Practice preferred Education Fund Coaching Methodology when engaging learners. Refer those who do not meet criteria for specific training programs to explore other Ed Fund programs that provide program readiness for partnered/union members. Participate in the creation and facilitation of presentations/workshops for healthcare employees. Support outreach and recruitment plans based on knowledge of employer facilities, work culture, union characteristics, and the labor‑management environment. Screens applicants for basic eligibility, collects, and analyzes relevant data. Understand and communicate local labor market data (LMI) to provide career and educational guidance. Remain current on all program details and processes to clearly communicate program details with learners. Work with Education Fund staff to support learners while in the program and provide case management. Maintain accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting through diligent data entry and case management. Maintain member electronic files, documenting participation, completions, and outcomes as required. Ensure caseload awareness at all times using Salesforce reports to support case management needs. Complete counseling sessions and learner calls that meet qualitative and quantitative organizational goals. Proactively collect success stories from learners across programs. Collaborate with program teams to review documents used for learners and the Career Advice team. Adjust Salesforce reports as needed for the Career Advice Team’s case management requirements. Participate in all program‑related activities as requested by the AD. Ensure all program documents are updated and available in the Salesforce library for the Career Advice team. Act as Leader on the Career Advice team, providing ongoing mentorship to the team. Spend a minimum of 25 hours per week with learners, including updating Calendly availability to reflect learner needs. Onboard/train newly hired Career Counselors in a timely manner through shadowing and mentorship opportunities as approved by the AD. Communicate with the AD and department leaders about regional learner needs and concerns to ensure the regional team has what it needs for impactful interactions. Qualifications BA/BS degree required (degree in career counseling or an associated field is required). Experience and knowledge of college prerequisites and requirements. Knowledge of healthcare occupations and skill requirements. Experience within a union and/or healthcare environment preferred. Ability to conduct various forms of basic and vocational skills testing. Ability to work with a diverse membership. Active listening and adaptability to meet learner needs. Demonstrate professionalism and commitment to providing a positive experience for learners. Ability to work independently and develop relationships with educational institutions, unions, and healthcare employers. Commitment to working within a labor‑management partnership environment. Flexibility to accommodate changing work requirements. Strong written, oral, Microsoft Office, organizational, and problem‑solving skills. Teamwork skills and ability to work well as part of a team. Effective time management to build capacity for increased caseload prior to program launches. A valid driver’s license, insurance, and automobile in good working order. Ability to work in required time zones outside of California. Physical Demands Ability to drive and move from one site to another for extended periods; ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods; ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs.
