Junior Designer

Bedding/Bath Product Support

This position is responsible for supporting lead designers on bedding/or bath product as assigned for complete lifestyle collections. This position is also responsible for learning technical and analytical skills that are necessary to develop product as well as strategic design skills to further support the design efforts of the team overall.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for learning technical and analytical skills needed to design and develop above product categories
• Supports lead designer throughout total design process
• Responsible for opening all packages daily, determine the sample request and priority, retrieve design spec, and organizes samples by priority for designer to review.
• Coordinates with PD team to relay sample feedback to vendor, communicates urgent feedback as needed.
• Responsible for maintaining daily showroom organization and sample archive being up to date.
• Coordinates with Designer to discuss which samples to donate and ensure that all relevant samples are either merchandised in showroom or stored properly in showroom to be ready for any meeting.
• Responsible for managing incoming and outgoing samples in an organized way to ensure studio neatness and consideration of all team members working environment, as well as following process for sample donations
• Follows Designer direction and priority for deadlines, supports any project as needed based on urgency and is able to juggle multiple projects at a time
• Works closely with designers and product development team to pass information through PLM and software systems to keep all project/development data up to date.
• Able to easily find and provide project/development updates or information in said systems to provide fast and accurate answers as needed.
• Reviews tracking systems to be aware of incoming and late samples and coordinates with product development team to manage sample deliveries.
• Responsible for helping maintain organized brand sample library for design and quality reference
• Responsible for following procedures and understanding the importance of system processes to ensure efficient and successful projects
• Responsible for organizing and maintaining accurate files and references on all projects, both past and current in all company systems necessary in coordination with other team members - data asset management systems, PLM, SharePoint, Google Slides (softwares/systems are subject to change as business and technology evolves, team members must be adaptable to changing systems)
• Responsible for updating Manager with current status of design projects as needed
• Responsible for meeting deadlines in a timely manner and communicating status updates on projects to Designer on a regular basis
• Responsible for addressing all matters in a timely fashion regarding inter-office duties, working with the customers, as well as outside vendor communication and licensors as applicable

Essential Skills and Experience:

• BA/BFA in Design/Textile Design or Design-related major (required - i.e. Textiles, Product Development, Home Fashions, or Apparel)
• Experience with weaving, general knowledge of how fabrics and materials are woven and dyed.
• One to two years of Home Fashions experience with CAD and related home product development fields
• Possess strong working knowledge and proficiency in Photoshop and Illustrator, with working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
• Documented experience in the Design field from both college and work experience, strong color-sense, knowledge of current trends and lifestyle brand aesthetics
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and successfully prioritize workload
• Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in order to effectively communicate and report information to all levels of the Company
• Possess strong organizational and analytical skills
• Ability to prioritize work, be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision
• Ability to handle confidential information
• Experience in product design and specification for manufacture
• Experience with and ability to meet deadlines for design development and production and prioritize and re-prioritize as necessary to meet changing needs
• Ability to understand significance of information and act accordingly to insure proper outcome; whether to inform others or act
• Ability to work within a team on all projects
• Ability to multi-task on a routine basis, be detail-oriented, adapt plans and change direction as needed, have a proactive mindset and have the ability to perform the job under a moderate to high level of stress
