Network Security Specialist

Salary: $82,000 - 122,000 per year Requirements:

• We seek an associates or bachelors degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• We require at least 2 years of IT experience with exposure to networking and/or security.
• A valid drivers license is required.
• We value strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation abilities.
• Preferred qualifications include CompTIA Network+, Security+, or similar industry-recognized certifications.
• Experience with Microsoft 365, including Microsoft Defender and Entra ID, is preferred.
• Familiarity with core network security concepts such as firewalls, VPNs, and segmentation is preferred.
• Prior experience in municipal or government IT settings is preferred.
• A basic understanding of cybersecurity frameworks and compliance standards is preferred.
• Familiarity with Virtual Desktop Infrastructure environments is preferred.

• We monitor network and system activity for anomalies, threats, and unauthorized access.
• We support the response to cybersecurity incidents, including investigation and remediation.
• We help implement security controls such as MFA, endpoint protection, and access management.
• We perform system patching, updates, and basic vulnerability remediation.
• We maintain secure settings for firewalls, switches, wireless networks, and endpoints.
• We assist with compliance efforts tied to state, federal, and internal security standards, including CJIS where applicable.
• We configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network infrastructure such as switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless systems.
• We support Active Directory, hybrid Microsoft Entra ID environments, and Microsoft 365 services.
• We monitor system performance, uptime, and backups, and address issues proactively.
• We assist with backup and disaster recovery processes, including data restoration.
• We document network configurations, systems, and IT assets.
• We provide support for desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, and other IT equipment.
• We respond to helpdesk tickets and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
• We install, configure, and support business applications used across City departments.
• We assist users with access issues, account management, and general IT requests.
• We train staff on cybersecurity awareness and proper use of City technology.
• We support IT systems across multiple departments, including administration, public works, utilities, and public safety.
• We assist with the lifecycle management and replacement of IT equipment.
• We collaborate with vendors and service providers for system support and maintenance.
• We help evaluate, recommend, and implement new technology solutions.
• We maintain accurate documentation for systems, procedures, and configurations.
• We assist with developing and maintaining IT policies, standards, and procedures.
• We support business continuity and disaster recovery planning efforts.
• We assist with IT procurement and budget planning as needed.
• We provide occasional after-hours support for maintenance or outages.
• We help maintain IT services during emergencies or critical incidents affecting City operations.

We are seeking a Network Security IT Specialist to support and protect our Citys IT infrastructure, including network systems, endpoints, and enterprise applications. This full-time role combines network security, systems administration, and end-user support to help ensure reliable, secure technology operations across all City departments. The position includes occasional after-hours support and work in office, data center, and field environments as needed. The salary for this role is 48,000 annually.
