About the Department:

• The Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine (PACCS) within the Department of Medicine is looking for faculty members at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, either on the Academic or Clinical Track. Our division boasts over 80 faculty members across four main hospital locations, featuring nationally recognized programs and leaders in areas such as Interstitial Lung Disease, COPD, Lung Transplantation, Critical Care Medicine (including Respiratory Failure & ARDS), Cystic Fibrosis, Interventional Pulmonary, and Sleep Medicine.

• The Interventional Pulmonology Program is a comprehensive, high-volume center supported by six AABIP-certified faculty members. It provides a wide range of advanced procedures, performing over 200 rigid bronchoscopies each year, along with robotic bronchoscopy at three affiliated hospitals, and lung volume reduction surgeries, totaling more than 1,200 procedures annually. The faculty specializes in managing subglottic stenosis and airway complications related to lung transplantation. The program receives referrals from Minnesota and surrounding states, handling approximately 3,000 clinic visits each year across five dedicated Interventional Pulmonology locations, supported by two specialized RNNCs. We ensure dedicated operating room time at three system hospitals to maintain procedural efficiency and accessibility. Established in 2016, the ACGME-accredited University of Minnesota Interventional Pulmonology Fellowship attracts highly competitive candidates annually and emphasizes strong multidisciplinary collaboration with departments such as Otolaryngology (ENT), Thoracic Surgery, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and Chest Radiology.

M Health and Clinical Partnerships:

Providers operate at affiliated sites within the M Health Fairview shared care delivery system. This collaboration involves University of Minnesota Physicians (M Physicians), University of Minnesota Medical Center, and Fairview Health Services, aiming to create a nationally recognized academic health system that merges academic and community resources to deliver exceptional clinical care to patients and communities while also fostering research and education across the integrated healthcare delivery system.

Primary Responsibilities:

The faculty member on either the academic or clinical track will dedicate a minimum of 85% of their effort (90-100% for clinical track) to delivering high-quality clinical care in general and interventional pulmonary, with some involvement in trainee education. For those on the academic track, the remaining 15% will focus on educational and collaborative research activities, with an expectation of achieving accomplishments that align with promotion criteria (such as an average of at least one publication per year). Clinical responsibilities will take place at the University of Minnesota Medical Center (Hospital and Clinics and Surgery Center) and may include time at additional Fairview Hospitals and Clinics. The faculty member will actively engage and contribute to the academic and clinical initiatives of the PACCS Division and the Department of Medicine in pulmonary and critical care.

Qualifications:

• Completion of an accredited ACGME Internal Medicine residency and/or fellowship training program, demonstrating high-level qualifications and extensive knowledge in Interventional Pulmonology.

• Board eligible or certified with the American Board of Internal Medicine and AABIP.

• Possession of or eligibility to obtain a medical license and DEA registration in the State of Minnesota, meeting the necessary criteria for credentialing and privileges.

• Ability to secure work authorization in the United States from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and maintain legal status in accordance with VISA requirements.

Compensation and Benefits:

This role is jointly employed by the University of Minnesota and University of Minnesota Physicians, with a total anticipated salary range of $270,000-$300,000.
