DIVISION: Departmental TITLE: Content Creator DEPARTMENT: Communications REPORTS TO: Digital Director HOURS: Typically between 5–10 hours/wk CLASSIFICATION: At-Will & Volunteer Our Mission: We are building a Gen Z-led movement seeking to empower young leaders to advocate for transformative policy and bold political action, predominantly at a state and local level. We are committed to a bottom-up movement that prioritizes the needsof the communities we represent and seeks to reclaim our future by advocating for social, economic, environmental, and other kinds of political reform. POSITION SUMMARY The Content Creator is considered a departmental position and reports to the Digital Director. The Content Creator at Beyond the Ballot is responsible for producing compelling, politically resonant content that mobilizes our base, communicates our mission, and uplifts the voices of working people across the country. As part of the Communications Department, the Content Creator works closely with organizers, policy staff, and leadership to turn key campaign messages into engaging social media posts, graphics, short-form videos, email blasts, and other multimedia assets. This role requires a sharp understanding of digital storytelling, a strong commitment to progressive values, and the ability to adapt tone and format for diverse platforms and audiences. This position plays a vital role in shaping how the public sees and supports our work, especially during moments of rapid response or high-stakes political mobilization. This position demands not just technical skill, but also a deep alignment with our grassroots ethos, respect for lived experience, and passion for advancing a working-class agenda. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION: High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or technical school preferred WORK EXPERIENCE: Prior work in the non-profit sector, especially previously or currently serving in positions on other non-profit roles, is highly preferred Experience in managing and mentoring team members and fostering a positive work culture Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team-oriented environment Proficiency in Canva (or Adobe Pro) or other relevant basic graphic design software ESSENTIAL DUTIES Develop and produce original content (graphics and/or video) for social media platforms, email newsletters, and digital campaigns Collaborate with the Director of Communications to align content with organizational priorities and organizational messaging Monitor political developments (especially on social media platforms) and identify timely opportunities to create reactive or trending content that reflects Beyond the Ballot's mission, tone, and values Work to translate complex policy proposals and political analysis into accessible, engaging, and impactful content Maintain an organized content calendar and ensure consistent posting across platforms Work closely with organizers and chapter leaders to amplify local stories, campaigns, and events Assist in editing, captioning, or formatting video content for digital distribution Adapt content to fit platform-specific requirements and audience expectations (e.g., Instagram vs. Twitter) Track performance of digital content and use analytics to refine strategy and improve engagement Uphold branding, messaging, tone, and style guidelines in all public-facing materials Advise on the development and sustainability of the operational reserve fund, donor-restricted accounts (if applicable), or other designated financial assets Assist in identifying and mitigating potential financial risks, including cash shortfalls, unfunded liabilities, or compliance gaps Ensure that all board members understand and uphold their fiduciary responsibilities, providing guidance or training as necessary on budget literacy or financial oversight PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND WORKING CONDITIONS The physical abilities, working conditions, and other conditions of employment listed in this document are representative of but are not intended to provide an exhaustive list of the requirements for positions in this classification.
