Senior Accountant (CPA)

Work Setting: Primarily client-site | Travel: Approximately 25–50% within the U.S.
FLSA Status: Exempt

We are seeking an experienced, client-focused Senior Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate is organized, collaborative, self-motivated, and adaptable, with a strong background in accounting, financial advisory services, and compliance. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is required.

The candidate must be able to work independently, manage multiple client engagements, and communicate financial information clearly. This position supports small business clients across a variety of industries, helping them establish sound financial practices, understand accounting and tax requirements, improve financial operations, and use accounting systems effectively.

Approximately 80% of the role focuses on strategic advisory services and financial guidance, while 20% involves reviewing accounting transactions, preparing financial statements, and supporting compliance activities. The position requires the consistent use of discretion and independent judgment on financial, strategic, operational, security, and other significant matters affecting the company and its clients.

Essential Responsibilities

Client Advisory and Financial Consulting

• Serve as a trusted accounting advisor to small business clients across a variety of industries
• Develop an understanding of each client’s business operations, goals, and financial reporting needs
• Provide strategic accounting and financial guidance to help clients make informed business decisions
• Review accounting processes and recommend improvements to financial controls and reporting accuracy
• Advise clients on accounting best practices, internal controls, and financial management
• Provide guidance on business structures and related accounting considerations, including LLC tax elections and payroll considerations
• Respond to client accounting and financial questions in a timely and professional manner

Accounting and Financial Reporting

• Review bookkeeping and accounting transactions for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with accounting standards
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Analyze financial reports, identify trends, and communicate recommendations to support clients’ business decisions and financial stability
• Complete account reconciliations and accounting adjustments as needed
• Support month-end and year-end closing activities
• Assist clients in establishing and maintaining accurate accounting records

Accounting Systems Support

• Train clients to use QuickBooks and other accounting systems effectively
• Help clients implement accounting best practices within their financial systems
• Troubleshoot accounting system issues and recommend process improvements
• Ensure accounting systems support accurate financial reporting and efficient daily operations

Audit and Compliance

• Assist clients in preparing for financial audits
• Prepare documentation and respond to auditor requests and questions
• Complete reconciliations and other audit support activities to ensure accurate financial reporting
• Maintain compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable accounting regulations

Corporate Tax Compliance

• Prepare corporate tax returns
• Monitor changes in accounting and tax regulations that may affect clients
• Identify tax planning opportunities and compliance considerations for clients

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
• Accounting experience: At least 10 years of progressive professional accounting experience required. Additional experience may be needed for certain client engagements.
• Accounting knowledge: Strong knowledge of GAAP and an understanding of accounting best practices and industry benchmarks.
• Financial reporting: Experience preparing financial statements and supporting financial audits and compliance activities.
• Technical proficiency: Proficiency with QuickBooks or equivalent accounting software required, along with advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Organizational skills: Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy; able to manage multiple client engagements and competing priorities.
• Problem-solving: Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills; takes initiative to identify issues, recommend practical solutions, and exercise sound professional judgment.
• Communication: Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; able to explain complex financial information to clients without an accounting background.
• Client service: Strong relationship management skills and business understanding; able to understand client needs and provide thoughtful, practical guidance.
• Professionalism: Demonstrates integrity, discretion, and respect for confidential information.
• Adaptability: Able to work independently and respond to changing client needs and business environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience providing accounting consulting or advisory services to multiple clients
• Experience supporting small business accounting and financial operations
• Knowledge of corporate tax compliance
• Experience reviewing corporate tax returns and identifying opportunities for improvement
• Experience implementing accounting processes and internal controls

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

• Work is primarily performed at client sites
• Approximately 25–50% travel within the U.S. is required for client meetings and on-site support
• The position involves frequent computer and keyboard use
• Occasional lifting of office materials weighing up to 20 pounds is required
