SUMMARY: The Cashier under the general direction of the Pharmacy Director works as part of the Pharmacy Department. The Cashier works as a part of the team greeting patients, locating prescriptions, and resolving issues associated with picking up their prescriptions, and assisting with phone calls. The Cashier is responsible for calculating charges, collecting payments, and keying in charges. The Cashier will also start training as a Pharmacy Technician when appropriate.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: (other duties may be assigned) 1. Confirms the identity and accurately matches the prescription to the patient. 2. Asks patient if they have any questions about their medications and if they need to speak to the pharmacist. 3. Collects patient payments at time prescriptions are picked up and issues receipts for payments received. 4. Maintains orderly prescription pick up bin area, separating by patient name and/or prescription classification (delivery, HepC, waiting) 5. Makes phone calls (when texting is not indicated) to inform patient that prescription is ready for pickup. Makes reminder calls to let patient know prescription is ready. Returns prescription to stock after 14 day original fill date. All calls and attempts to reach patient is documented accordingly on patients bag. 6. Maintains and is responsible for the opening cash drawer fund of $150.00. 7. Balances register at the end of day and prepares deposit slips. 8. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

RELEF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: 1. Trains to learn roles of Pharmacy Technician. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skills, and/or ability required:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or equivalent; experience may be substituted for education; must have at least one year of health care related experience.

ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL/MOTOR SKILLS: Must understand medical terminology, possess mathematical skills, accurate keyboarding skills, ability to process work error free -- Ability to use standard office equipment, including computers, photocopiers, and facsimile machines -- Ability to learn, understand, and utilize both pharmacy and medical record software.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills -- Excellent telephone etiquette -- Teamwork and communication skills essential -- Treat all patients, co-workers, and managers with courtesy and respect.

MENTAL ABILITIES: Cognitive reasoning -- Clear thinking in high-pressure situations -- Ability to prioritize and withstand pressure of continual work with variable requirements -- Ability to concentrate and maintain accuracy despite frequent interruptions -- Critical thinking and organization skills, problem solving, and reasoning capabilities.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to speak English and Spanish fluently -- The ability to speak other languages is a plus.

MedNorth Health Center provides comprehensive health care services, inside a multi-cultural medical/dental clinic, to all individuals; insured, uninsured, and underinsured. The building is heated in winter and air conditioned in the summer with noise levels of moderate to loud. We serve patients who speak multiple languages and who may need the assistance of an interpreter. In this position one may be subject to exposure to copier toner, correction fluid, bright fluorescent lighting, and continuous personal computer exposure. This job is a Blood borne Pathogens risk category III position.
