Backend Software Engineer

Back-end Software EngineerLocation: Hybrid (Austin, TX) - 3 days per week in officeType: Full TimeSalary Range: + equityAbout the RoleWe are looking for a Back-end Engineer who thrives on building commercial products and plays a key role in delivering reliable, scalable, and maintainable applications. You will lead projects from start to finish, collaborating with Product Managers and UX Designers to define requirements, implement solutions, and ensure ongoing success post-deployment. You'll focus on simplicity while contributing technical insights to enhance the system's performance, stability, and user experience.Key ResponsibilitiesEnd-to-End Project Ownership: Translate requirements, estimate effort, and address or escalate blockers while understanding and contributing to all aspects (infrastructure, application tiers, and data tiers).Software Development: Participate in all stages of the software development life cycle, from design and development to deployment and maintenance.Code Quality: Write clean, maintainable code that adheres to best practices in readability, design patterns, reusability, and testing.Performance Optimization: Continuously monitor performance metrics and recommend improvements or refactors.Collaboration: Work closely with a global team, including engineers, product managers, and UX designers, to build a stable, high-performance platform.Testing & Performance: Implement comprehensive testing and performance tuning to ensure system stability and uptime.Qualifications3+ years of experience working in agile environments (ideally Scrum), collaborating with cross-functional teams.Proficiency in server-side development with hands-on experience in building scalable and reliable back-end systems.Proficient in Node.js and Typescript; experience with Python is a plus.Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and distributed systems (CockroachDB, ClickHouse).Familiarity with Kafka for building real-time data pipelines and event-driven architectures.Expertise in using Docker for containerization, Jenkins for CI/CD, and Terraform for infrastructure as code.Experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, etc.) for cloud-based application deployment.Experience designing, building, and maintaining RESTful APIs and integrating with external services.Strong attention to documentation and maintaining standards across projects.Skilled at estimating project complexity based on early documentation and discussions.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.BenefitsEquity & Compensation: Competitive salary with stock options.Health & Wellness: Comprehensive health benefits.Work-Life Balance: Unlimited PTO and parental leave.Professional Growth: Tuition reimbursements.Opportunity to grow with a leading company in the cybersecurity space.Culture & Community: Recognized as one of the "Best Workplaces" and "Best Places to Work."Global team of 500+ employees committed to making the world a safer place.
