Program Operations Manager

Overview

The faculty in the Molecular Microbiology department are united by a common interest in the biology of microbes (bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites) and the effects of microbes on human and animal hosts. The microbial pathogens program studies microorganisms that cause infectious diseases, with emphasis on rigorous analysis of these pathogens and the immune responses that restrict them. Program investigators direct detailed studies of pathogenic bacteria, viruses, fungi and eukaryotic parasites. Research topics include structural analysis of virus entry, viral evolution, viral oncogenes, intracellular bacterial pathogens, microorganisms that cause diarrhea and pneumonia, intracellular signaling, pathogen adhesion, genetic determinants involved in susceptibility to infection, vaccine development, and identification of novel antimicrobial agents.
What You'll Do

Oversee operations of the department to ensure seamless execution of academic and program activities.
Serves as the key integrator for the department and its campus partners.
Collaborators with department chair to develop department goals and strategies for the Molecular Biology Department; with input from the graduate program director, develops goals and strategies for Molecular Microbiology training grants. The role is integrative, applying intermediate specialized, subject matter knowledge and experience to develop, implement, review and evaluate the department functions, including department-based cores such as the BSL3 facility, Media and Dishwashing facilities.


Responsible for implementing timely and effective communications plans and strategies to support the Department, department-based training grants, core facilities, and philanthropic resources such as the David Cosman, Verna Manni, and Andrew and Greta Wright Funds. This role reports directly to the chair of the molecular biology department and has a dotted line reporting relationship to the Director of Basic Sciences Administration.

• Manage department programs from initial planning through implementation. With input from the chair, develops goals and strategies for departmental programs.
• Execute departmental projects from planning through completion, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder expectations are met. Implements plans and evaluates progress. Recommends and implements changes as necessary. Identify opportunities to improve processes, enhance collaboration, and strengthen cross departmental workflows.
  Interpret and communicate policies and procedures, guiding faculty and staff in navigating requirements and maintaining compliance.
• Plays lead role in budget development including analyzing and recommending budgets, preparing and presenting reports and projections. Assists in the preparation of NIH training grants and proposals for new funding opportunities or continued support.
• Manages the hiring and training of two department staff members, evaluates workflow and productivity and participates in employee performance reviews. Supervises temporary employees. Has a dotted line reporting relationship with the Director of Basic Sciences Administration and is a key point of connection with colleagues in Research Administration. Works closely with Director on recommendations with budget implication for hard and soft money funds.
• Supports University-authorized international undergraduate research programs, including initiation of agreements and visas.
• Develops department-specific initiatives and needs, such as data management systems and system upgrade efforts, department-supported hard-money equipment purchases and service contracts. Initiates renovations, repairs, and contracts for department labs.
• Provides ideas and content for meetings, seminars, lectures and other special events. Participates in presentation of seminars, lectures and other special events.
• Assist the Center for Integrated Management of Antimicrobial Resistance (CIMAR) Executive Director in generating financial statements, projections, considering revenue streams and expenses.

Pay Range

Minimum $79,600.00, Midpoint $99,600.00, Maximum $119,500.00

Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
