CROSSING GUARD OPENING DATE: 08/27/2025CLOSING DATE: Open until filled(Job openings are posted for a minimum of three calendar days. The review and selection process may begin as early as the fourth day after posting. This opening may be removed from posting boards and filled any time after the minimum posting period has ended.)GENERAL DESCRIPTION:Under the supervision and direction of a Sergeant, Police Officer, or Crossing Guard Supervisor, prepares the crossing zone and assists children in crossing streets safely on a seasonal basis while children attend school. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:(These examples are not all-inclusive)Prepare the school crossing zone by turning on the 20 MPH flashing lights and placing warning cones in the street.As children arrive, take them safely across the street, watching traffic closely and stopping cars if necessary.When children are finished crossing, remove cones from the street and turn off the 20 MPH flashing lights.Process is repeated twice daily when children travel to and from school. May also be required to perform duties mid-day to safely see to the needs of kindergarten-aged children attending school for the day.Must be able to see, hear and quickly and accurately respond to emergency safety situations. Regular and prompt attendance is essential.May also be required to participate in special events as asked by school administrators, PTA, and/or the police department. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High School Diploma or equivalent preferred but not requiredMust be at least 18 years of age KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:Ability to follow oral and written instructionsAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and other employeesAbility and willingness to work outside in various environmental exposures SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test, a background screen, and complete form I-9 employment eligibility verification.
