The Work You Will Do:
This position is responsible for performing regulatory and compliance duties involving child labor related activities under Chapter 450, Part I, Florida Statutes in the Fort Lauderdale Field Office. The incumbent in this position is responsible for performing duties in support of the Child Labor enforcement and compliance initiative.
Your Specific Responsibilities:
- Conducts on-site investigations of complaints relating to youth employment to determine compliance with Chapter 450, Park I, Florida Statutes. Compiles and analyzes evidence of infractions through in-depth review of payroll records, conducts and interviews Subjects as necessary, prepares investigative reports of findings, and submits to the Child Labor Program staff for appropriate action. Issues notice of investigations, warnings and follow up correspondence which may include notice of unfounded or in-compliance notifications.
- Conducts educational workshops/seminars, through written materials, telephone contacts, and program presentations for employers, employees, Florida Board of Education, schools, parents, and the general public. May coordinate and/or work with outside agencies on matters relating to the employment of minors working in the workforce. May refer complaints and apparent violations outside of our enforcement authority to appropriate state, federal and local law enforcement agencies including, but not limited to; USDOL (Wage & Hour), OSHA and Workers Compensation.
- Conducts scheduled and unscheduled compliance inspections of employer businesses and regional sweeps. Evaluates, analyzes, compiles, and records investigative reports which may include, but are not limited to, payroll audits and spreadsheets.
- Conducts fact-finding conferences, takes testimony from parties regarding complaints and witnesses. Assists Department's legal staff in the preparation and prosecution of cases, and attends formal and informal hearings, giving testimony concerning investigations.

- Knowledge of investigative techniques.

- Ability to interpret and apply laws, statutes, policies, and regulations.
- Ability to conduct investigations in the field to gather evidence.
- Ability to conduct research and fact-finding interviews to secure accurate information.
- Ability to write detailed chronological reports.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle in different driving environments.
- Ability to work flexible hours with occasional regional overnight travel.
- Possess analytical skills necessary to identify violations of statutes and rules and identify elements of the alleged violations.
- Ability to use available technology including computer software, hardware and data systems.
- Proficient in Windows-based computer software programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to speak in public forums.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
- Ability to manage time effectively.
Minimum Requirements:
The selected incumbent should possess the following:
- Two (2) or more years of regulatory-related experience, and
- The ability to work flexible hours with regional travel and occasional overnight travel; and
- A valid Drivers’ License is required.
Preferred:
- Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in an regulatory-related field.
