Registered Nurse Mother-Baby Care

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in Mother-Baby / Couplet Care / Postpartum will provide specialized nursing care to high-risk obstetric patients and their newborns. This role includes managing postpartum care with an emphasis on magnesium sulfate therapy, supporting both mother and infant through assessments, medication administration, and collaborative care. The nurse will float within related units such as Labor & Delivery and NICU to assist with newborn care as needed, ensuring comprehensive, patient-centered care in an acute care hospital environment. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to postpartum mothers and newborns, including high-risk obstetric patients.
• Administer medications, including magnesium sulfate, and monitor patient responses.
• Perform patient and infant assessments, documenting and communicating findings effectively.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Assist in Labor & Delivery and NICU units as needed, supporting feeding, soothing, and changing babies.
• Maintain accurate electronic health records using Epic charting system.
• Adhere to hospital policies and Magnet facility standards for quality care and patient safety.
• Respond to on-call duties and adapt to floating between units within the division based on competency.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Minimum of 3 years nursing experience, preferably in obstetrics or related fields.
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certifications.
• Active Registered Nurse license valid in the state of practice.
• Strong clinical assessment and medication administration skills.
• Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, acute care hospital settings.
• Competency in electronic medical record documentation (Epic preferred).

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with high-risk obstetric patients and postpartum magnesium sulfate care.
• Previous experience in Labor & Delivery, NICU, or postpartum couplet care.
• Familiarity with Magnet hospital standards and acute care nursing protocols.

Special Considerations:

• On-call availability is required.
• Floating within related units (Labor & Delivery, NICU) based on competency and division needs.
• Work environment is an acute care Magnet facility with 377 staffed beds.
• Must comply with return-to-office (RTO) policies noted at time of submission.
• Free parking provided; scrub color is flexible with specific colors provided for L&D and OR.

Scheduling:

• Patient-to-nurse ratio is typically 1:4.
• Shift assignments may include day, night, or rotational shifts within the mother-baby and related units.
• Schedule includes floating to similar units within the division as needed.
