Leave of Absence Specialist - Temporary

Location: Lacey, WA | Onsite

Assignment: 18-20 week coverage


Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday; four 10-hour shifts may be available

Pay: $33-$38 hourly

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Leave of Absence Specialist to support employees through the leave process with compassion, accuracy, and discretion. This position manages leave documentation, supports workers' compensation claims, and helps ensure compliance with applicable state and federal requirements and company policies.

The ideal candidate brings substantial hands-on experience administering Washington Paid Family & Medical Leave (PFML) , along with strong knowledge of FMLA and ADA requirements , excellent organizational skills, sound judgment, and a professional, employee-focused approach.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer leave of absence documentation and maintain accurate, confidential electronic and physical records.

• Guide employees through complex and overlapping leave situations involving Washington PFML, FMLA, and ADA , as well as Paid Leave Oregon when applicable.

• Support employees with workers' compensation claims and maintain related documentation.

• Explain leave procedures, company policies, and benefits clearly and compassionately.

• Monitor leave activity and documentation to support timely processing and compliance.

• Research employee questions using company policies and applicable requirements, collaborating with HR leadership as needed.

• Exercise sound judgment when navigating complex or nuanced employee leave situations that may require an individualized approach.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of related HR experience, including substantial hands-on experience administering Washington Paid Family & Medical Leave (PFML).

• Strong working knowledge of ADA requirements and the accommodation process.

• Strong understanding of FMLA and the coordination of overlapping state and federal leave programs.

• Workers' compensation experience strongly preferred.

• Paid Leave Oregon experience is helpful but not required.

• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Excel and Outlook, plus experience with an HRIS or similar system.

• Strong attention to detail, organization, and written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to manage sensitive situations, protect confidential information, demonstrate compassion and flexibility, and build respectful working relationships.

• Ability to use sound judgment and navigate situations that may not have a one-size-fits-all solution.

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
