Role Description The Travel Registered Nurse Labor and Delivery role is a contract, on-site position based in Dubuque, IA. The nurse provides comprehensive, patient-centered care to individuals during labor, birth, and immediate postpartum, including assessment, monitoring, and support for both birthing patients and newborns. Daily responsibilities include administering medications, managing IVs, operating fetal monitoring equipment, and promptly responding to changes in patient status in collaboration with obstetric providers and the care team. The role also involves documenting care in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards, educating patients and families on labor, delivery, and newborn care, and adhering to evidence-based practices and safety protocols. Travel nurses may be expected to float to related units, adapt quickly to new clinical environments, and work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. Qualifications Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Iowa or compact state eligibility, with current BLS and NRP certifications (ACLS preferred). Recent clinical experience in Labor and Delivery or related obstetric units, with demonstrated competence in fetal monitoring, triage, labor support, and postpartum care. Strong patient assessment, critical thinking, and clinical decision‑making skills, including the ability to respond effectively to obstetric emergencies. Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and accurate documentation in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements. Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with interdisciplinary teams and provide clear education to patients and families. Ability to adapt to new hospital settings quickly, manage a variable workload, and maintain professionalism in high-stress or fast-paced environments. Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays, and to meet travel assignment expectations, including compliance with facility onboarding requirements.
