Job Title: Electrician Worker Type: Regular Pay Type: Hourly Exempt Status: No Compensation Grade (Track/Level): S2 Hiring Range (Commensurate with experience and qualifications): $22.63-$30.16 Salary Ranges: All Compensation Grades Supervisory Organization (Department): Electrical Services Summary: Reporting to the Supervisor of Electrical Services, the Electrician performs a variety of licensed, journeyman skilled duties associated with the maintenance, installation, repair, replacement, and alteration of applicable systems. Job Description Inspects, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, and installs a variety of electrical equipment such as generators, electrical wiring, fixtures, wiring boxes, switches, controllers, transformers, equipment, circuit breakers, etc.; and locates electrical malfunctions and determines the appropriate resolution. Replaces broken and defective electrical fixtures and equipment including light switches, receptacles, relays, and starter breakers. Provides guidance and training to the lower level electricians in an effort to develop their skills; participates in assigning work and ensures conformance with District, department and code standards; monitors work flow to assist in ensuring that mandated deadlines are met; provides information, guidance and training on work procedures; and assists in maintaining a fair and open work environment in accordance with the District’s commitment to team work, mutual trust and respect. Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles and installs electrical conduit using rulers, measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threaders and conduit benders; and places conduit pipes or tubing inside partitions, walls or other concealed areas and pulls insulated wires/cables through conduits to complete circuits. Maintains and repairs interior building electrical distribution including switchgear, uninterrupted power supplies, wiring, breaker panels, and electrical distribution system, outlets, light fixtures, exit lights, and mounted emergency lights. Maintains street lighting systems; replaces ballasts and bulbs; and maintains switching relays and transfer switchers. Installs necessary connections for new equipment and, if necessary, new circuitry; and assures that all electrical work at the University conforms to national and local code. Reads and interprets blueprints, wiring diagrams, pneumatic prints, manuals, handbooks, sketches, prints, and structural plans, etc. in support of assigned duties; researches and obtains literature and information as needed; and develops time and material job estimates. Orders supplies and equipment for each job; conducts preventive maintenance inspections according to established schedules; and suggests changes and improvements and assists in the development and revision of same. Maintains daily records of work performed and materials used. Provides leadership to lower level electricians in the absence of the supervisor; and assists outside contractors as needed. Utilizes a variety of test equipment including volt meters, mergers, OHM meters, capacitor testers, and other standard test and electrical equipment. Responds to emergency calls and observes all safety procedures. Assists with other trade and building/grounds maintenance tasks as requested to facilitate the effective delivery of facilities and maintenance services; and serves as a key advisor to management related to electrical systems. Performs assignments carefully, promptly, knowledgeably, and accurately with a great deal of independence. Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors. Demonstrates a genuine commitment to belonging in the workplace and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning. Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis. Prioritizes workplace safety as a collective responsibility for employee well-being and fosters a culture of safety integral to our success, including strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols and the prompt reporting of any safety hazards or incidents. Performs related and other duties as needed. Required Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. A minimum of threeyears of experience with electrical services, system maintenance, or a related field. Preferred Qualifications Ability to communicate in American Sign Language. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Strong knowledge of test equipment and tools of the trade. Demonstrated ability to work with and across University departments, outside constituents and groups. Additional Job Details The incumbent must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and to work from ladders or scaffolding. The incumbent must be available for emergency call-in work. The incumbent must maintain a valid Driver’s License. The successful candidate must have valid authorization to work in the United States.
