Senior Mechanical Engineer

Nova Biomedical is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support new product development and sustaining engineering initiatives at our Norwood, MA facility. Working as an individual contributor, this role will prepare electromechanical designs, drawings, specifications, analyses, and cost estimates for new and existing product lines.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide technical guidance to Research and Development project teams, Manufacturing Engineering, and Production personnel. This individual may also serve as a technical lead and mentor to junior engineers.

The ideal candidate will be capable of managing large-scale or complex assignments, presenting design concepts, and clearly explaining the engineering considerations behind design decisions. This role will ensure product designs meet applicable quality, manufacturing, functionality, reliability, and serviceability requirements.

Responsibilities:

• Develop design concepts based on written and verbal requirements.
• Present design concepts and recommendations to Engineering, Manufacturing, and other project stakeholders.
• Prepare detailed specifications, designs, calculations, analyses, and simulations for major hardware components and product subsystems.
• Develop high-level and detailed architectures for electromechanical product subsystems.
• Apply advanced, alternative, or nonstandard engineering tools and techniques when traditionally accepted methods are inadequate or do not apply.
• Design electromechanical products and components with consideration for quality, manufacturability, functionality, reliability, cost, and serviceability.
• Oversee the fabrication and assembly of engineering models and prototypes.
• Provide technical direction to team members supporting prototype fabrication, assembly, and testing.
• Develop and conduct nonstandard or product-specific evaluation tests for prototypes and product designs.
• Accurately record test observations and data.
• Analyze and interpret test results and prepare clear technical summaries and reports.
• Maintain knowledge of emerging technologies, materials, processes, components, and engineering practices within relevant areas of expertise.
• Evaluate the technical feasibility and potential benefits of incorporating new technologies into new or enhanced products.
• Prepare engineering documentation inputs for Documentation Control, including drawings, schematics, bills of material, specifications, work instructions, and related records.
• Review preliminary documentation packages for technical completeness and accuracy.
• Provide technical direction to Documentation Control personnel during documentation preparation and release.
• Prepare and process engineering change orders in accordance with established documentation practices.
• Participate in design and drawing reviews.
• Serve as an independent technical reviewer of work completed by other engineers and project teams.
• Coordinate regularly with cross-functional team members.
• Monitor assigned tasks against established project schedules and communicate status, risks, and concerns to the Project Manager or senior management.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering and Production personnel to support product introduction, production startup, troubleshooting, and ongoing sustaining activities.
• Interact with external suppliers and customers to evaluate new technologies, components, and processes.
• Work with suppliers and customers to investigate and resolve product or component issues.
• Support projects from initial concept through production startup and provide ongoing technical support following product release.
• Serve as a technical lead or mentor to junior engineers as assigned.
• Manage multiple engineering priorities effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline required.
• 7 to 10+ years of experience in the design, prototyping, and testing of new or existing electromechanical devices.
• At least five years of recent experience designing and documenting electromechanical products using SolidWorks.
• Experience with SolidWorks Product Data Management preferred.
• Experience designing electronic packaging, sheet-metal components, and nonmetallic enclosures.
• Strong knowledge of materials selection and mechanical fabrication and assembly processes.
• Knowledge of motion-control systems.
• Experience completing product-development projects from initial concept through production startup and post-release support.
• Ability to prepare accurate and complete engineering drawings, part specifications, bills of material, work instructions, engineering change orders, and related documentation.
• Knowledge of accepted engineering drafting and documentation standards.
• Experience developing product and subsystem architectures.
• Experience fabricating, assembling, and evaluating engineering prototypes.
• Ability to develop and conduct product-specific testing and technical investigations.
• Ability to accurately record, analyze, interpret, and summarize test data and observations.
• Strong understanding of design for manufacturability, product functionality, quality, reliability, and serviceability.
• Ability to identify and apply advanced or alternative engineering approaches to complex technical problems.
• Experience participating in design reviews and independently reviewing the work of other engineers.
• Ability to evaluate emerging technologies, components, materials, and processes for potential product applications.
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency with word-processing and spreadsheet applications.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong organizational and priority-management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to present design concepts and justify technical decisions clearly.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and within a cross-functional project team.
• Ability to provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

• Comfort with working at a computer for extended periods.
• Capacity to lift and carry up to [25–50] pounds as required
• Able to communicate effectively via phone, video, and written communication.
• Occasional need to move about the office to access meetings or resources.

Work Location: Must be able to work in office (typical office environment) 4-5 days per week in Norwood facility.

Targeted Salary Range: $125,000 to $145,000 annually
