About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Med-Surg Adult Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Two-year degree in nursing required. BSN preferred. License: Must hold and maintain Registered Nursing license. Certifications: BLS certification required or obtained within 1 month of hire. ACLS certification required or obtained within 6 months of hire. PALS encouraged. Must-Have: Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required. Description: The Registered Nurse position provides quality, professional nursing care to patients. Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, documenting, and evaluating patient care for a group of patients. Must adapt appropriately to changes in daily assignments, patient status changes, and unit needs. This position requires providing care to Med/Surg and EICU patients. Use and perpetuate the nursing process throughout the patient's hospitalization. Ensure that patient care is individualized to meet the patient's unique needs and situation. General knowledge of disease processes and anticipated treatments, labs, vital signs, and any other potential complications in relation to diagnosis. Initiate, develop, and document patient plan of care based on patient assessment and medical diagnosis and set priorities for nursing action in accordance with departmental expectations. Provide care independently with minimal supervision based on unit requirements, physician orders, and policy and procedures. Respond to life-threatening situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of procedures and treatments and have the ability to explain them to patients at their level of understanding. Perform or assist with procedures per approved departmental policy and procedure. Observe and record significant condition changes or reactions for patients. In a timely manner, notify Provider of change in patient's condition, reaction to drug, treatment, and significant incidents. Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems. Acknowledge physician’s orders via the electronic medical record (EMR) through the process of review and verification. Once the order is acknowledged, follow through on order or delegate in a timely fashion. Be proficient in medication administration, including IV therapy, as evidenced by a lack of medication errors. Initiate patient/family education plan and discharge needs according to the individualized needs of the patient/family, as prescribed by the provider and/or hospital policy. Delegate to and collaborate with other health team members in planning and providing care based on patient needs. Safely care for multiple patients. Maintain a safe environment for patients and use safety precautions appropriately. Demonstrate understanding and utilization of Universal Precautions, asepsis, and infection control procedures. Ensure proper handling of specimens. Other duties as requested. Intermediate proficiency with computers is required. Excellent clinical skills and problem-solving skills required. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize effectively with staff, patients, and public. Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and de-escalation skills. Ability to have continuous oral and written communication with patients, co-workers, and supervisors is essential. This position is generally active in nature. Repetitive movements, occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds, pulling, pushing, reaching, lifting, stooping, and the ability to read a computer screen, detect color-coding, and read fine print will be expected.
