Heavy Equipment Operator

Probst Electric is looking for a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to support our utility construction projects. In this role, you'll operate a variety of equipmentsuch as excavators, backhoes, skid steers, and drillsto assist with transmission, distribution, underground, and civil construction work. Your expertise helps ensure crews can work safely, efficiently, and on schedule in demanding field environments.

Responsibilities

As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you'll play a key role in supporting utility construction projects by safely and efficiently operating equipment and assisting crews in the field. Your responsibilities will include:

• Follow all company and job?site safety regulations and procedures.
• Identify and avoid potential hazards such as utility lines, equipment, workers, and falling objects.
• Operate heavy equipmentincluding track hoes, backhoes, forklifts, skid steers, and similar machineryusing throttles, switches, levers, and pedals.
• Load, move, and place dirt, rock, materials, and equipment using tractors, shovels, trucks, and related machinery.
• Maneuver equipment to strip topsoil, clear vegetation, remove obstacles, and level or grade terrain.
• Excavate, drill, and prepare holes for foundations, poles, or utility structures.
• Perform right?of?way clearing, reclamation, and site preparation.
• Guide, direct, and mentor laborers and ground personnel during work activities.
• Perform basic equipment care, including greasing, oiling, and minor repairs using hand tools.
• Clean and prep construction sites to remove hazards and maintain safe working conditions.
• Read and interpret construction plans, instructions, and specifications.
• Assist with traffic control around work zones when necessary.
• Measure, mark, and record distances and layouts to support construction work.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• One year experience in heavy equipment operation
• Valid Commercial Driver License
• Valid DOT Medical Certification
• Experience digging around existing utilities
• Travel required for continued employment
• Pass pre-employment and other drug screenings
• Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Compliance with OSHA and other Federal, State, and local safety regulations

Preferred Qualifications

• Three to five years of experience in heavy equipment operation
• Lo-Drill experience
• Loader and Forklift experience
