Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Two (2) years of full-time administrative experience. Experience administering tests. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Workspace. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver’s License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. **(* Out-of-State Applicants, see "Special Notes”).
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a higher education/academic environment. Experience working with diverse populations including individuals with disabilities. Experience with student services software. Supervisory experience. Experience coordinating and scheduling exams between students, faculty, and departments. Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Experience with assistive technologies (e.g. Kurzweil, JAWS, NVDA). Experience with a testing scheduling system.
Brief Description of Duties:
Responsible for ensuring that the exams that the Student Accessibility Center (SASC) provides are in compliance with the mandates of the ADAAA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. The successful applicant will have experience managing complex situations and coordinating with multiple constituents in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
The incumbent plays a crucial role as a team member within Student Health, Wellness & Prevention Services. In this capacity, they collaborate with other team members to collectively contribute to the overall functioning and effectiveness of the services provided. This involves actively participating in team meetings, sharing insights, and engaging in collaborative decision-making processes. The incumbent's role extends to fostering a cooperative and supportive atmosphere, ensuring seamless teamwork, and collectively working towards the common goals and objectives of Student Health, Wellness & Prevention Services.
The selected candidate will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem-solving. They will also have the ability to manage their time and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines. The candidate will have sound professional judgment, remaining composed under pressure.
Coordinate exam scheduling with students, staff, and faculty. Authenticate student requests for examinations and obtain additional information if necessary. Communicate with departments, faculty, and staff regarding student’s needs and accommodation. Manage SASC emails and correspondence with students. Send reminders to faculty regarding any outstanding exams. Reserves space that can be used for testing purposes throughout the campus. Correspond with the Office of the Registrar regarding exam-scheduling needs. Ensure that students are receiving their reasonable testing accommodation provided by the Student Accessibility Support Center. Act as a liaison to faculty in order to receive all students’ exams in an accessible format and within a timely manner, ensuring that the integrity of the tests and examinations are not jeopardized.
Maintain testing policies and procedures. Work with the SASC Director on any new testing policies and procedures. Manage electronic sign-in process. Record and report to the appropriate stakeholders all incidents occurring during testing, including irregularities. Provide ad-hoc assessment data to the Director of SASC.
Acts as the first point of contact for the testing center. Elevate issues or concerns to the Director as necessary.
Manage the storage and security of all exams. Facilitate accurate distribution of exams to professors and other stakeholders. Provide faculty with the reassurance of the protected integrity of all proctored SASC exams.
Hire and supervise proctors and students during exam administration. Manage staffing schedule to ensure adequate coverage to accommodate morning and evening testing schedules. Provide educational and training opportunities for testing staff.
Communicate with Student Accessibility Support Center’s Assistive Technology Specialist to ensure that the appropriate accessible technology and adaptive equipment are prepared prior to student’s exam start time. Assist the technology specialist to ensure that exams are accessible.
Provide crisis intervention. Interface with student crisis teams and access resources on/off campus.
Professional Development and Committee Involvement:
Participate in opportunities that promote your learning, growth, and development (i.e. classes, training, committee, webinar, etc.). Contribute to the Division of Student Affairs and Stony Brook University by attending and/or supporting events, activities, and programs sponsored by areas outside of your individual unit/department (i.e. campus wide traditions, events, programs, etc.).
Other duties or projects assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Evening and weekend work may be required at times.
Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
Salary : $60,000-$62,000 $4,000 Location Pay = $64,000-$66,000 Total Compensation
In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4,000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions that are designated as such may be required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are canceled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.
