Substitute NurseSupport student success by promoting, protecting, improving, and maintaining student, staff, and community health while serving as a substitute nurse.EducationNursing degree from an accredited college or universityValid nurse license from the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners CPR certificationSpecial Knowledge/SkillsCurrent practical working knowledge of nursing procedures and techniques relevant to childrenEffective communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work independently to implement district policies and proceduresExperiencePediatric experience preferredMinimum of 1 year nursing experience preferredMajor Responsibilities and DutiesProvides health services by:Performing comprehensive nursing assessment on students and staff by using clinical reasoning, synthesizing comprehensive data, providing nursing care, and evaluating, reporting, and documenting patient outcomesAdministering medications and treatments according to school district policies and the Nurse scope of practice (BON, 15.28, TAC, Rule 217.11)Reporting any concerns related to child abuse (physical or mental) to administrators, law enforcement, and the Texas Department of Family and Protective ServicesManages the school clinic by:Managing supplies and equipmentMaintaining cumulative/individual health recordsEstablishes procedures for communicable disease control by:Implementing and enforcing school district communicable disease policiesReporting communicable disease cases as required to administrators and Lead NursesProvides emergency first-aid care by:Assessing the severity of injuries and taking appropriate actionPerforming first aid procedures effectively and efficientlyAnticipating changes in patient conditions and responding accordingly to include emergent careSubmitting school district accident reports periodically and notifying administrators and Lead NursesStay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality staff development opportunities for personal growth.Research district policy, precedent, and current practices prior to taking action.Participate as an effective team member who contributes to the district, department, and content goals.Demonstrate integrity and ethics.Display proficient levels of technology applications.Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.Meet task completion deadlines established by the supervisor.Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met.Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal).Provide work availability one month in advance.Perform other related duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.The Nurse must be prepared to seek out other Nurses's to include district Lead Nurses or other healthcare providers when student conditions or situations exceed the Nurse's level of competency or experience to ensure student safety.The Nurse monitors, coordinates, and evaluates the provision of health services necessary to meet individual student health needs essential in achieving educational objectives.Working ConditionsMental DemandsMaintain emotional control under stressPhysical Demand/Environmental FactorsExposure to bacteria and communicable diseasesFrequent standing, stooping, bendingMoving medical equipment and other clinic materials
