Junior Civil Engineer Location: Hackensack, NJ Job Type: Full-time Department: Engineering / Public Works / Infrastructure Reports To: Senior Civil Engineer / Project Manager / Township Engineer Position Overview: We are seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Junior Civil Engineer to support our engineering team in the planning, design, and construction of public infrastructure projects. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field. 0–3 years of experience in civil engineering or construction (internships/co‑ops count). EIT (Engineer‑in‑Training) certification or ability to obtain within 6 months preferred. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally for site visits. Preferred Skills Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to civil engineering projects. Familiarity with GIS, Stormwater Management, and NJDEP permitting (or applicable local equivalents). Experience with construction administration and inspection. Key Responsibilities Plan alteration or modification of existing transportation structures to improve safety or function. Evaluate transportation systems or traffic control devices or lighting systems to determine need for modification or expansion. Investigate traffic problems and recommend methods to improve traffic flow or safety. Orient, assign, and supervise construction inspection staff to cover all contractor activities. Supervise construction activities and provide quality assurance in accordance with contract documents.
