Custodian

About the Role Under the immediate supervision of the Supervisor of Buildings, and administrative direction of the Facilities Director, the Custodian maintains a clean working environment for all staff and visitors by performing standard janitorial and grounds maintenance duties. Key Responsibilities Gather and empty wastebaskets, change liners, in all offices and work areas, and remove trash. Clean and supply rest rooms with towels, soap and toilet paper. Dust furniture and windowsills. Clean and polish woodwork, brass, marble, doorplates, furniture and other fixtures. Floor maintenance, including clean, sweep and mop floors; clean carpets, vacuum and spot clean; using dust mops, wet mops and vacuum cleaner. Clean and disinfect water fountains and/or water coolers. Move furniture, with or without assistance. Wash building windows, mirrors and elevator doors and panels. Sweep and clean building sidewalks and walkways using brooms or shovels. Remove snow from sidewalks and walkways; spread snow melting salt and chemicals. Empty outside trash and cigarette receptacles. Maintain work areas, supplies and equipment in a clean, orderly and proper manner; notify management of low inventory levels. Attend in-service training and educational sessions as assigned. Report malfunctioning equipment, lights or plumbing. Clean publicly used countertops and reception counters. Lock and unlock assigned buildings or offices; secure building when facilities are not in use checking for unlocked doors and windows; report any unauthorized occupants; turn off lights. Attend to cleaning emergencies when necessary. Safely operate all job related equipment. Perform additional duties and assignments as requested. Qualifications High School Diploma or G.E.D. Previous experience in custodial or housekeeping work preferred but not required. Possession of a valid Driver’s License.
