Barista Lead

Takes a lead role in the absence of the Café Coordinator; assists the shift Dietary Supervisor with café operation. Prepares specialty coffee and tea beverages, smoothies, and frappes for customers as requested. Operates cash registers in cafeteria for cash, credit card, and Quick Charge transactions. Responsible for following all cash handling procedures and accountable for over/short, voids, and no sales. Stocks cafeteria with beverage, food, and non-food items and performs general cleaning of area.

Assists with food preparation for France Tower Café.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or GED preferred.

Upscale retail food service, coffee bar, or hospitality background preferred.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSURE:

Skills in oral and written communication required. Good organization skills and ability to work within pre-defined time frames and deadlines. Must have superior customer service skills and professional appearance. Good hand-eye coordination and body mechanics.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES :

• Makes espresso, coffee, and tea drinks, both hot and cold, according to customer requests.
• Makes smoothies and frappes for customers as requested.
• Stocks, cleans, and prepares beverage counter for service.
• Cleans coffee brewers, grinders, espresso machine, blenders, and other beverage making equipment continuously and at the end of shift.
• Cleans, fills, and maintains yogurt machine following established policies and procedures.
• Brings needed supplies to café from main kitchen.
• Follows all food safety procedures including temperature logs, sanitizer logs, cleaning schedules, correct food storage, and date labeling.
• Organizes cashier station, verifies cash bank at beginning of shift.
• Operates cash register to process cash transactions for cafeteria purchases made by staff, volunteers, and visitors.
• Processes non-cash transactions for cafeteria for interdepartmental transfers and charges.
• Follows all cash handling policies and procedures; completes required reports legibly.
• Exhibits excellent customer service skills, team work, and ability to proactively solve problems.
• Serves as line cook as scheduled preparing grilled sandwiches, pizzas, and deep fried items according to customer orders.
• Assists in training and directing France Tower Café employees on shifts when the Café Coordinator is not on site.
• Requisitions foods and supplies from main kitchen store room; helps controls food waste and food cost by monitoring staff compliance with drink and food recipes.
• Opens and/or closes the café in the absence of the Café Supervisor which can include setting up cashiers in the morning and/or closing them out at the end of shift.
