Communicable Disease Investigator I (Class5719) THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION ENDING DECEMBER 2026. Are you passionate about the health and wellness of your community? As a Communicable Disease Investigator (CDI) you will have the opportunity to investigate cases of communicable diseases and connect with people of diverse backgrounds. You will impact your community by providing education, community outreach, provider engagement, and case analysis. In this role, it is vital to have the ability to build trust and protect confidential information. If you are someone with patience, perseverance, and a creative problem solver this may be the perfect opportunity for you to join the nationally recognized Pima County Health Department. Essential Functions Investigates possible disease sources by interviewing patients and contacts, and reviewing associated information in order to locate the source, carriers, and all spread cases related to the disease incident; Refers affected patients to appropriate diagnostic facilities for examination and treatment; Performs selective blood testing surveys and applies other epidemiological techniques in high incident areas; Maintains appropriate confidentiality and security of information created or encountered in the course of assigned duties; Provides information and education services to the public; Promotes uniform investigative methods and reporting procedures with physicians, laboratories, and community health facilities; Prepares and submits manual and computer-based reports. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in public health, health education, biology, microbiology, nursing or a closely related field; or High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalency certificate AND four years of paid/unpaid experience providing public health services, health care services, health education and/or communicable disease education and intervention. Preferred Qualifications Minimum one (1) year experience in health care services providing health education, preferably with HIV/STIs and communicable disease. Minimum one (1) year experience providing direct client services to diverse populations and cultures of diverse socio-economic backgrounds. Experience in data collection, client interviewing techniques, and/or creating computer generated reports. Experience with/knowledge of computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite, Electronic Health Records, and/or web-based applications. Required Licenses & Certifications Valid driver license at time of application. Valid Arizona driver license at time of appointment. Proof of immunization(s) and/or tuberculosis screening after job offer. Post-offer physical and/or drug screen, which may include respirator fit test.
