Job Title: 5-Axis CNC Mill Machinist
Job Description

This role focuses on setting up and operating a 5-axis CNC mill to produce precision components with tight tolerances. You will perform regular machine set-ups, run production parts, and complete detailed inspections and documentation to ensure dimensional accuracy and quality standards are consistently met.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate a 5-axis CNC mill, ensuring all tooling, fixtures, and programs are correctly installed and aligned.
• Perform 2–3 machine set-ups per week, or longer production runs with approximately one set-up per week, depending on job requirements.
• Review daily work instructions to determine the parts and jobs scheduled for production and plan set-ups accordingly.
• Verify that the CNC mill is properly configured before running parts, including checking tooling, offsets, and workholding.
• Run production parts according to specifications, monitoring machine performance and adjusting as needed to maintain quality and efficiency.
• Complete history cards and production documentation for each job, accurately recording set-up details, run information, and inspection results.
• Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, and other quality instruments to ensure tolerances are maintained, including dimensional accuracy of +/- 0.001" and holding +/- 0.002" where required.
• Read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings to understand dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements.
• Perform tooling changes and changeovers on the CNC mill as required for different jobs and part configurations.
• Use vertical milling and multi-axis machining techniques to produce precision components, particularly for aerospace applications.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, following safety procedures and using appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Identify and communicate any quality or machining issues promptly to help maintain consistent production and product integrity.

• Minimum of 2+ years of CNC milling experience, specifically with 4- to 5-axis CNC mills.
• Proven experience setting up CNC mill machinery, including tooling, fixtures, and program verification.
• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
• Demonstrated ability to hold dimensional accuracy of +/- 0.001" and maintain tight tolerances such as +/- 0.002".
• Hands-on experience using quality instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools.
• Proficiency with CNC mill operations, including set-up, tooling changes, and production machining.
• Experience working with vertical mills and multi-axis machining environments.
• Familiarity with machining parts on Haas or similar CNC milling equipment.
• Solid understanding of machining practices for precision components.

• Experience in the aerospace industry or machining aerospace components is highly desirable.
• Comfort working in a smaller machine shop environment with high standards for quality and precision.
• Ability to follow detailed work instructions and document production and inspection activities accurately.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining tight tolerances and consistent quality.
• Good communication skills to collaborate with team members and report any issues or improvements.

Work Environment

You will work in a clean, well-lit, climate-controlled machine shop that focuses on producing precision parts for the aerospace industry. The facility is smaller and offers a close-knit, collaborative atmosphere. The position is on first shift, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., providing a stable and predictable schedule. The required personal protective equipment is limited to safety glasses, and the shop maintains organized workspaces and modern CNC milling equipment to support efficient and safe operations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mishawaka, IN.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
