Senior AI Product Builder - FC Automation
$151.08k - $251.8kShipBob, Inc.
As a member of the ShipBob Team, you will... Grow with an Ownership Mindset: We champion continuous learning and innovation. You'll take on real problems, create tangible solutions, and drive results that move the needle for ShipBob, our merchants, and for your own professional growth. If you're ready to do the most meaningful work of your career, this is the place. Collaborate with Peers and Leaders Alike: At ShipBob, leaders are accessible; feedback flows in both directions, and everyone, regardless of their seniority or role, steps up to help when needed. We hold each other to high standards because we trust each other to meet them. That combination of transparency and mutual respect is what makes the work here feel worth doing. Experience a High-Performance Culture and Clear Purpose: We are results-driven and clear about what that means: our goals are specific, accountability is shared, and every team member can see how their work connects to our mission. When we hit milestones, we celebrate them together. When we fall short, we learn and move forward. Location: Remote in these states: AL, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, KS, KY, IA, ID, IL, IN, LA, MA, ME, MI, MN, MO, NC, NH, NJ, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI Role Description: As a Senior AI Product Builder – FC Automation at ShipBob, you own the full build loop for Automation Product and Strategy — defining how ShipBob's WMS integrates with automation hardware to lift productivity and quality across the fulfillment network, and shipping the WMS-side product, integrations, and workflows that turn that strategy into operating reality. You own the full build loop for this domain: discovery, story/specs, AI-augmented prototypes, and production-ready PRs. This is not the traditional PM role — you are a builder and an automation strategist. You use the AI development toolchain (e.g., Claude Code, Driver.ai) to understand ShipBob's codebase architecture, generate working code against the actual repo, and ship to production with minimum engineering rework. The minimum technical floor for this role is real: you must read ShipBob's data model, evaluate AI-generated scaffolding for correctness, identify which manual workflows are ready for automation, and write story/specs precise enough that AI tools can act on them without follow-up questions. This role is for someone energized by speed, uncomfortable with waste, and who measures success by outcomes shipped — not documents approved. You will set the automation strategy for your domain — evaluating automation hardware options, deciding which are the right fit for ShipBob, and shipping the WMS integrations, workflows, and operator experience that make them productive on the floor. As ShipBob embraces new automation technologies, you are the person turning that strategy into measurable productivity and quality gains. You operate in an AI-native pod alongside an AI Engineer, AI/Prompt Engineer, and Designer. This role reports to a Director, AI Product Builder. What you'll do: Own the full product loop independently: AI-augmented discovery → story/spec → prototype → production PR → outcome measurement. You are accountable for the outcome, not just the handoff. Independently conduct customer discovery and use AI tools to synthesize research across tickets, interviews, behavioral data, and competitive signals. Demonstrate deep functional and technical knowledge of owned products end-to-end. Independently demo to merchants and partners; understand competitive landscape and key differentiators. Use AI tools independently to analyze product metrics, identify usage patterns, and surface anomalies. Define success metrics and kill thresholds at spec time without coaching. Maintain a prioritized automation roadmap ranked by impact × speed. Use AI tools to synthesize competitive intelligence, market trends, emerging warehouse automation capabilities, and customer insight into strategic inputs. Identify the highest-leverage productivity and quality opportunities in ShipBob’s fulfillment operations. Evaluate automation hardware options, recommend the right strategic fit, and own the WMS-side product work that integrates them into the floor. Independently evaluate whether a proposed solution fits ShipBob's architecture without Engineering translation. Understand service boundaries, data structures, and how merchant and partner API usage shapes data contracts. Independently route changes through prototype-then-PR. Write clear story/specs and review AI-generated code before raising. PR promotion rate improves consistently. Set experiment hypotheses with explicit kill thresholds. Make day-7 rollout/kill decisions on AI-surfaced data. Additional duties and responsibilities as necessary. What you'll bring to the table: 5+ years of product management, product engineering, or equivalent experience, with demonstrated hands-on AI tool usage in a professional context. Proven ability to write story/specs that AI tools can act on directly — state machines, business rules, data contracts, edge cases — not narrative PRDs. Technical fluency: can read a data model, evaluate an API contract, and identify when AI-generated code deviates from the target architecture. Track record of shipping working prototypes or production code, not just Figma mocks or slide decks. Strong outcome ownership: sets success metrics and kill thresholds at spec time and tracks them after launch. Experience working in supply chain, fulfillment, logistics, transportation, or e-commerce technology. Demonstrated experience shaping automation product strategy in a fulfillment, warehouse, or manufacturing context — selecting automation hardware, integrating it with a WMS or shop floor system, and shipping measurable productivity and quality gains. Comfortable operating in a fail-fast culture. Being wrong fast is a feature here — staying slow to look right is the failure mode. Excellent written communication: you write specs, not meeting notes. Nice to have: Hands-on experience with the AI development toolchain (e.g., Claude Code, Driver.ai, Cursor, Replit, V0, Figma AI). Working knowledge of TypeScript, React, or Python — enough to debug AI-generated code and understand what the Engineer is reviewing. Experience with warehouse management systems, order management, carrier integration, or fulfillment operations at scale. Prior experience transitioning a product team from traditional SDLC to an AI-native operating model. Working knowledge of warehouse automation hardware — person-to-goods, goods-to-person, AS/RS, robotics, sortation, conveyance, pick-to-light, palletization (robotic and semi-automated), computer vision (dimensioning, item recognition, quality inspection), and similar systems — and direct experience integrating automation hardware into a WMS to lift productivity and quality. ShipBob believes in transparency while providing a competitive total compensation package with a pay for performance approach. We are targeting a salary range of $151,080 - $251,800 for this role. The full base pay range for this position in our compensation architecture is $151,080 - $289,570. In addition to base salary, this role includes the opportunity to be eligible for participation in the Company's discretionary bonus plan based on Company's plans and in accordance with Company’s policies.
