Licensed Practical Nurse-3M

UPMC McKeesport is hiring a Full‑Time Licensed Practical Nurse to support the Medical/Surgical/Oncology (3M) Unit. This position works rotating 12‑hour shifts, including weekends and holidays. This position is eligible for a generous sign‑on bonus of $7,500 for experienced LPNs with at least one full year of experience. Graduate LPNs are offered $5,000. All candidates who accept a sign‑on bonus are expected to make a 2‑year work commitment to UPMC McKeesport. Purpose Under the direction of a registered nurse, provide routine patient care within the scope of the Practical Nurse Act of Pennsylvania. Responsibilities Comply with safety policies and procedures, including standard precautions. Serve as a resource for staff and other disciplines. Request assistance and review relevant policies and procedures before performing new or challenging skills. Constructively receive feedback and direction. Act as a preceptor for new staff members. Understand and implement the rehabilitation routine and philosophy, including FIMS, within scope of practice. Provide appropriate, direct patient care, including injections, vital signs, basic diagnostic tests, wound dressing, and medication administration while complying with medication use policies. Assist the RN and interdisciplinary team in evaluating, planning, and implementing plans of care. Perform assigned work timely and productively. Establish effective communication strategies. Successfully complete the FIM exam as required bi‑annually. Suggest and support changes within the department. Demonstrate awareness of behavior on the efficient functioning of the department. Report equipment malfunctions to the appropriate department. Maintain current CPR certification at the Healthcare Provider level. Communicate effectively with patients and families about hospital stay, home care concerns, instruction, and any patient or family concerns, and discuss with RN in charge so that issues can be addressed. Take action to improve knowledge, skills, and performance based on feedback or self‑identified developmental needs. Participate in project and committee work. Identify and communicate learning needs to the unit director. Participate in healthcare conferences. Participate in self‑review as requested by unit director. Contribute to unit activities, including responding to call lights and telephones, passing meal trays, and transporting patients. Establish professional and respectful interpersonal relationships. Request assistance to plan and prioritize activities as needed. Assume responsibility for assignments and view problems as challenges. Observe and record patient symptoms, condition, or reactions to medications and treatments, and report results to the RN in charge. Strictly adhere to all policies and practices related to patient care and hospital information. Complete a Practical Nursing Program approved by the State Board of Nursing. Possess excellent communication skills necessary to interact with patients, family members, visitors, and staff. Use basic computer skills to input patient care orders and medical record documentation. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances CPR required based on AHA standards, including both a didactic and skills demonstration within 30 days of hire. Must complete licensure examination within FOUR MONTHS of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first. Though temporary permits are valid for one year from the date of graduation, not one year from issue of permit (or until results of the examination are known), UPMC requires that LPNs take the licensure examination within 4 months of start date or they will be terminated or demoted. Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Temporary Practice Permit (TPP). Act 34.
