Field Engineer I

Summary Field Engineer I is an engineering position focused on directly supporting projects while on jobsites or with regular onsite presence. The role requires learning and developing competency in the Essential Duties and Responsibilities. Responsibilities include providing technical engineering design, consultation, information, and assistance to internal and external customers under the direct supervision of the Engineering Team Lead or Manager to ensure project compliance with all engineering standards and to follow the electrical design intent. Essential Duties & Responsibilities May oversee or collaborate with Designers assigned to your work or team. Review, comment, and process equipment and system submittals. Review, comment, and process project requests for information (RFIs). Assist senior engineers with field observations, design interpretations, and design updates during construction. Assist on site field and project management team and develop skills pertaining to drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interferences, and errors. Perform coordination between architectural, structural, low voltage/communications, mechanical, and plumbing processes and all electrical trades. Prepare or update designs, check, and specify power, lighting, and auxiliary systems for the specific project(s) assigned. Develop or update power single-line diagrams for the specific projects assigned. Review short circuit studies and verify over-current protection device settings in the field. Coordinate with the project specifications or equipment buy-out. Participate in project team meetings. May interface with various team members, architects, and mechanical contractors/engineers. Work closely with the engineering supervisor to understand design criteria and budgetary issues. Assist with the review of plans and technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates under the supervision of a senior engineer. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, architectural engineering, construction sciences, or equivalent experience. A combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be acceptable. Competencies Teamwork, Productivity Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to learn Engineering Analytic programs for short circuits, over-current coordination, and arc flash mitigation programs, e.g., SKM, E-Tap. Develop familiarity with codes and energy efficiency requirements. Ability to learn and become competent in Autodesk, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), and Illuminance software. Ability to manage multiple tasks under the supervisor’s direction. Ability to work to meet deadlines and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to be self-motivated, proactive, and an effective team player. Ability to interact effectively and professionally. Travel 100% (Does not include local field visits) Working Conditions General work environment – sitting for long periods, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending. Work is conducted primarily indoors with varying environmental conditions such as fluorescent lighting and air conditioning. Noise level is usually low to medium. Occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs.
