POSITION: Speech & Language Pathologist Student Services
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university specific to Speech Pathology or related, field and qualify for teaching license issued by the Nevada Department of Education. REQUIRED LICENSE: Must possess or be able to acquire a Nevada teaching license issued by the Nevada Department of Education with endorsement in Speech & Language Impairments. Hold a certificate of clinical competence in speech from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association or an equivalent license from the Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensing Board.
DEFINITION: The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides diagnostic, remedial and consultative services for students with receptive/expressive communicative disorders.
CURRENT SALARY: $49,049 minimum - $95,806 depending on experience and education, scheduled 183 days per year. (*Additional pay: SB500 funds will be added for the 26-27 school year)
BENEFITS: District paid Nevada PERS retirement contribution, health, dental, vision and life insurance. Sick leave and personal leave included. Nevada has no state income tax.

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides diagnostic, remedial and consultative services for students with receptive/expressive communicative disorders. The SLP participates as a member of the special services and academic multidisciplinary teams.
Work is performed under the direction of the principal and/or Director of Special Services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement.
2. Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech and hearing impaired children.
3. Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
4. Employs assessment procedures, techniques, and standardized tests necessary for thorough ad accurate diagnosis, and conveys pertinent information to cooperating personnel.
5. Provides screening to identify speech-impaired children at regular intervals.
6. Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
7. Provides appropriate individualized program of therapy to meet individual student's needs and correct existing speech or language impairments.
8. Collaborates with classroom teacher and other staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student's daily activities.
9. Reinforces progress within the therapy situation and provides for generalization and reinforcement within other environments.
10. Keeps thorough and ongoing records for the individual receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.
11. Maintains lists of referred, screened, and eligible students, and related services.
12. Assists with/conducts training of speech aides.

- Guide the learning process toward achievement of curriculum and student goals.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies aligned with instructional objectives, in order to meet the needs of all students.
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
- Maintain and improve professional competence through continued education and in-service.
Experience and Training Guidelines: Any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A typical way to gain the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Speech Pathology or related field.
Must possess or be able to acquire a Nevada teaching license issued by the Nevada Department of Education with endorsement in Speech & Language Impairments.
Physical and Mental/Intellectual Requirements: The physical and mental/intellectual requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Strength, dexterity, and coordination to use keyboard and video display terminal for prolonged periods. Strength and stamina to bend, stoop, sit, and stand for long periods of time. Dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper; occasional lifting of files, stacks of paper or reports, references, and other materials.
Some reaching for items above and below desk level. Some reaching, bending, squatting, and stooping to access files and records is necessary. The manual dexterity and cognitive ability to operate a personal computer using word processing and databases. The ability to interact professionally, communicate effectively, and exchange information accurately with all internal and external customers. Light lifting (up to 25 pounds) is occasionally required.
