Job Title
As an Archeologist, GS-0193, your typical work assignments may include, but not limited to:
- Conducts and coordinates archeological investigations, site inventories, field inspections, monitoring activities, evaluations, and related studies to identify and assess cultural resources.
- Research archaeological, historical, ethnographic, and environmental information from archival records, databases, maps, reports, oral histories to support cultural resource analyses and decision-making. Work includes synthesizing complex data and provides professional level evaluation.
- Plans, coordinates, evaluates, and provides oversight for cultural resource management activities associated with land management, resource stewardship, infrastructure development, environmental compliance, emergency response. Directs multidisciplinary coordination and provides guidance on significant actions.
- Reviews and evaluates archeological reports, research designs, treatment plans, monitoring reports, site records, eligibility determinations, mitigation proposals, and technical studies for adequacy, scientific validity, and compliance with professional standards. Provides authoritative technical review and resolves complex compliance issues.
- Provides professional review and consultation regarding proposed projects, land-use actions, permits, rights-of-way, infrastructure improvements, resource management activities, and other undertakings that may affect archeological resources or historic properties.
- Prepares technical reports, findings, recommendations, correspondence, consultation documents, environmental review materials, and other written products related to cultural resource management activities. Work may include developing advanced documentation, drafting guidance, and producing materials with bureau or region wide impact.
