Job Description:

The Assistant Vice President/Chief Advancement Officer, UF Health – Northeast will build and oversee a comprehensive philanthropy program for UF Health Northeast. The incumbent will report to the Sr. Vice President & Northeast Regional President, - UF Health (SVPNRP), the Dean of the College of Medicine – Jacksonville, and the Senior Associate Vice President/Chief Advancement Officer – UF Health. The AVP/CAO-NE will oversee development, grateful patient fundraising, annual giving, stewardship, capital projects, and CMN programs for UF Health’s Northeast units, including UF Health Jacksonville and, UF Health St. Johns and UF Health Durbin Park. The incumbent will serve as the primary point of contact for academic and hospital stakeholders in the Northeast for development-related activity and will collaborate with other members of the HSC Development leadership team to foster a culture of philanthropy. This position will manage a high-level portfolio of leadership and principal gift prospects and will lead the UFHNE Advancement teams and inspire a culture of high performance, collegiality, and professionalism throughout the organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Leadership/Management

• Create and oversee new campaign strategic plans for UF Health Northeast, and annual work plans for the Dean of the College of Medicine – Jacksonville and SVPNRP – Northeast, providing support and ensuring implementation of key elements, and aligning with the newly integrated health system strategic plans for the Northeast.
• Meet regularly with UF Health leadership and partner on philanthropy-related presentations and initiatives.
• Serve as a strategic member of UF Health – Northeast hospitals’ collaborative senior leadership team.
• Lead and manage high-performing teams, ensuring alignment with the goals of annual performance and business plans and assuming overall responsibility for implementation of strategic initiatives for UF Health – Jacksonville hospital, the College of Medicine – Jacksonville, UF Health – St. Johns, and UF Health Durbin Park
• Provide direction, strategic planning, leadership, counsel on matters relating to fundraising and operations. Ensure accountability and oversee staffing, including establishing goals in alignment with unit objectives, and develop and implement appropriate metrics.
• Evaluate staff, develop a strong sense of teamwork, and establish an environment of mentoring and support. Coach the team and bring cohesion to the department.
• Participate as part of the senior leadership team in setting direction and developing strategy for UF Health in partnership with the Chief Advancement Officer for UF Health.

Special Initiatives & Campaign Development

• Lead in the creation and promotion of a culture of philanthropy at UF Health-NE. Effectively involve stakeholders, including center/institute directors, department chairs, physicians, administrators, volunteers and donors in fundraising efforts.
• Support and enhance a dynamic grateful patient philanthropy program. Implement best practices, oversee development of programs and materials, and determine allocation of resources to generate maximum return on investment.
• Provide coaching for leadership on strategic plans, business plans, and campaign planning and development activities, including cultivation/solicitation strategies.
• Collaborate with the UF Advancement to maximize philanthropic opportunities.
• Support and partner with the Sr. Associate Vice President/ Chief Advancement Officer – UF Health and UF Health leadership in Northeast on all major fundraising initiatives. Develop and manage campaign prospect pipeline for UF Health – Northeast and the College of Medicine - Jacksonville. Meet annual targets for the number of donor visits, proposals submitted, and gifts closed. Monitor all donor information; provide and present statistical analysis to leadership.
• Successfully oversee the plan for raising funds to support campaign priorities, including scholarships, endowed professorships/faculty support and select capital projects.
• Plan and monitor the budget, using resources for best results in fundraising and planning activities involving volunteers, prospects, faculty and administration.
• Develop and maintain a personal fundraising agenda focused on leadership and principal gift prospects and donors.
• Strategically managing relationships through face-to-face visits and cultivation and stewardship activities to bring solicitations to closure.
• Develop and present major gift proposals and stewardship programs to acknowledge and recognize gifts in ways that are meaningful to donors and align to the vision, mission, and values of the unit, the University of Florida, and UF Advancement. Represent UF Health at donor and business and community events as assigned.
• Effectively articulate and communicate UF Health needs and priorities, particularly those among the Northeast units, within the context of the overall mission, goals and objectives.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Eight to ten years of progressively responsible leadership experience in development with a demonstrated track record of successful fundraising in a large-scale university and medical services environment or one of similar complexity.
• Demonstrated ability and expertise in building fundraising and engagement programs.
• Track record of recruiting, developing, and retaining a high caliber staff, building a team, and creatively organizing and managing them to maximize the support of external constituencies.
• Excellent organizational and operational skills; confidence and independence in exercising leadership skills and in representing UF Health to external constituents.
• Ability to construct, articulate, and implement an annual strategic development plan for a department.
• Demonstrated ability to support UF Health’s mission, particularly in managing the responsibilities of the department, including strategic and operational planning at the department level as well as establishing metrics and processes to monitor and evaluate operational performance outcomes and implement performance improvement initiatives when required.
• Demonstrated ability to provide management oversight, leadership, and strategic and tactical direction.
• A strong understanding of budgeting practices and financial accountability and the ability to manage resources with prudence and efficiency.
• Ability to work both independently and as a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside UF Health.
• Experience engaging, training, motivation, and staffing volunteers in the cultivation, solicitation, and closing of significant gifts; appreciation for the role of volunteers in building an effective development network.
• Ability to demonstrate the highest standards of ethics as accepted by the professional fundraising community.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal abilities, and the capacity to engage effectively and collaboratively with a wide range of individuals are essential.
• A commitment to and support for workplace inclusion in all its forms; demonstrated success collaborating with stakeholders; strong project management skills; experience in a data-driven environment; excellent organizational abilities; and the capacity to lead, influence, and inspire others are essential.
• The ability and willingness to travel. A valid driver license and good driving record are essential.
