Merchants Metals is seeking safety-focused, reliable, and hardworking Material Handlers to join our Operations team.

This position is ideal for individuals with forklift experience who enjoy working in a fast-paced manufacturing and warehouse environment. Material Handlers play a critical role in maintaining product flow, supporting production operations, loading and unloading materials, completing inventory-related tasks, and ensuring our customers receive quality products on time.

Day and Night Shift opportunities are available.

Applicants must be flexible to work overtime, weekends, and extended hours as business needs require.

What You'll Do

Material Handling & Equipment Operation

• Safely operate forklifts and other powered industrial equipment
• Move raw materials, finished goods, pallets, wire coils, fencing products, and supplies throughout the facility
• Load and unload trucks, trailers, and customer vehicles
• Stage, organize, and transport materials to support production and shipping operations
• Sort, inspect, stack, band, shrink-wrap, and secure materials for storage or shipment
• Pull, prepare, and verify customer orders for delivery and pickup

Shipping, Receiving & Inventory

• Receive incoming materials and verify quantities and quality
• Audit staged orders and pallets for accuracy
• Label, tag, and identify materials according to company procedures
• Complete production reports, inventory documentation, work tickets, and shipping paperwork accurately
• Assist with cycle counts and physical inventory activities
• Report discrepancies, damaged materials, or inventory concerns to leadership

Operational Support

• Support production teams by supplying materials and removing finished products
• Assist with loading processes and material flow throughout the plant
• Coordinate with drivers, team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure efficient operations
• Help maintain organized storage areas, staging locations, and workspaces
• Assist with miscellaneous warehouse, yard, production, and shipping activities as assigned

Safety & Housekeeping

• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements
• Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance concerns
• Maintain housekeeping and 6S standards throughout work areas
• Ensure materials are properly stored to prevent damage and safety hazards

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• Forklift and/or powered equipment experience
• Previous warehouse, manufacturing, logistics, shipping, receiving, yard, or production experience
• Ability to accurately complete production paperwork and documentation
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good communication and problem-solving skills
• Reliable transportation and dependable attendance
• Commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence
• Ability to work overtime and weekends when needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual (English/Spanish)
• Experience with inventory, shipping, receiving, or logistics processes
• Experience using Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Excel, and Word
• Experience in manufacturing, steel, fencing, wire, or construction-related industries

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
• Ability to frequently bend, lift, push, pull, and carry materials
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that is not climate controlled
