Senior Staff Accountant

The job of Senior Staff Accountant is done for the purpose of providing oversight of staff accountants; performing various account reconciliations, grant management, and collection and consolidation of financial information in order to facilitate sound business decisions.

Requirements:

• Bachelor degree with major in Accounting or Finance.
• Five or more years of accounting experience.
• Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities.
• Knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform advanced math; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
• Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: pertinent laws, codes, policies, and/or regulations; personnel processes; program planning and development; school budgeting, policies and audit procedures; concepts of grammar and punctuation; principles of public and fund accounting and budgeting, knowledge of OMB Uniform Grant Guidance, knowledge of multi-fund governmental accounting, internal control policies and audit activities.
• Skills required to perform multiple, technical tasks using existing skills. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using a variety of software applications including Excel, Word, Power Point and Access; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
• Ability required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate.

Essential duties:

• Attends a variety of meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
• Collects and maintains supporting documentation for the purpose of ensuring compliance with OMB Uniform Grant Guidance.
• Compiles financial and statistical data for a variety of financial reports for the purpose of ensuring the district meets all state, federal, and local financial reporting requirements.
• Examines a variety of supporting documentation for the purpose of ensuring proper reconciliation of various account balances.
• Oversees a variety of financial procedures for the purpose of meeting the requirements of state, federal, and local funding institutions.
• Oversees and inputs journal entries for the purpose of ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded.
• Reconciles fiscal information and account balances for the purpose of verifying accuracy of information, maintaining accurate balances and complying with generally accepted accounting practices and procedures.
• Researches a variety of information and work-related topics for the purpose of ensuring accurate financial analyses and reports for the district.
• Resolves misallocations of expenditures for the purpose of ensuring the relevance, reliability and accuracy of financial information.
• Reviews financial data for the purpose of ensuring accurate and complete financial reporting.
• Serves as a source of information for a variety of internal and/or external stakeholders for the purpose of disseminating information and ensuring compliance with internal controls.
• Supervises activities of the staff accountants for the purpose of ensuring district accounting practices, processes, and procedures are followed and meet state, federal, and local requirements.
• Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
