Civil Engineer- Muncipal

POSITION SUMMARY: This individual will design and/or manage a variety of infrastructure projects (owned by municipalities and local school districts) and will report directly to the Municipal Service Department Head. Such projects shall include roads, underground utilities, public buildings, recreational facilities, and land use applications submitted by private developers.

PRIMARY DUTIES

Responsible for acting as the project manager to one or more municipalities or other public agencies. The project manager will act as the single point of contact between the firm and the project. They will supervise and coordinate all projects performed in the firm on behalf of the client, to the client’s satisfaction. Develop or implement engineering solutions to assist clients with improving and maintaining their infrastructure. Design transportation, utility, facility, or hydraulic systems or structures (as appropriate) using computer assisted design or drawing tools. Compute load and grade requirements, water flow rates, or material stress factors to determine design specifications. Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility. Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, or other topographical or geologic data. Conduct studies of traffic patterns or environmental conditions to identify engineering problems and assess potential project impact. Perform all design activities ensuring compliance with environmental, safety, or other governmental regulations. Identify environmental risks and develop risk management strategies for projects. Attend regularly scheduled public meetings (conducted by Municipal clients) in the capacity of Municipal Engineer, or Land Use Board Engineer. Prepare and present public reports on topics such as bid proposals, project status reports and developmental review projects. Provide technical advice to clients regarding design, construction, or capital program modifications. Support field activities of construction inspection staff, including providing timely data, shop drawing review, and client coordination. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES Ability to draft reports including illustrations, appendices, maps and other attachments to summarize research results. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficient with Stormwater Modeling Software, Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & LICENSES REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, or related field from an accredited college or university. Professional License (P.E.) required. Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation to field visits and client meetings as required.
