POSITION SUMMARY: Provides routine maintenance and safe operation of heavy equipment in carrying out project assignments for the Southern Ute Division of Transportation (SUDOT).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Loads, transports, and operates motorized heavy equipment to and from designated job sites for the Supplemental Road Maintenance Program.

1. Provides fencing and other necessary safeguards around job sites.

1. Performs daily maintenance checks and minor repairs on heavy equipment and trucks assigned to the Supplemental Road Maintenance Program.

1. Provides written detailed cost estimates for projects requiring heavy equipment services.

1. Maintains a daily log and provides supervisor with weekly written report on road maintenance activities, to include hours of operation and equipment maintenance and repairs.

1. If required, supervises operator/laborers as Crew Leader on road maintenance jobs.

1. Follows all safety rules and regulations.

1. Reports any lost or damaged equipment in a timely manner.

1. Attends staff meetings and training as requested.

1. Participates in a positive, supportive, and team-oriented environment.

1. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Must pass an onsite equipment operating test.

Must have 2 years of experience in the operation of heavy equipment.

Must have a Class B CDL or higher.

Must be able to obtain Class A CDL within 1 year of hire.

Must have basic computer experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Must have a valid Drivers License for state of residency and be insurable through the Tribal Vehicle Insurance Policy.

Must pass a thorough criminal history background check including fingerprints.

Must pass a CDL pre-employment drug test.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Working knowledge of the Southern Ute Indian Reservation Roads.

Certification in First Aid and CPR
