NY/NJ Area Wastewater Market Sector Lead In this role, the candidate will drive growth and development in the wastewater market within New York and New Jersey, focusing on wastewater treatment and effluent management, pump stations and pipelines, biosolids, and One Water collaboration. Primary Responsibilities Advance business development strategies and pursue new clients and projects. Manage client relationships and key project delivery. Provide technical input on projects and mentor staff. Collaborate with technical and marketing teams to develop new business and support key pursuits. Act as client manager for selected key clients, addressing issues and coordinating multiple projects. Business Development Responsibilities Incorporate corporate and Water Business Group vision to become industry leader; translate national market drivers into area‑specific strategies and collaborate with local departments on pre‑marketing and relationship development. Serve as client manager for selected key clients, actively participate in professional organizations, conference presentations, and client development workshops. Promote the marketing and delivery of all HDR services to wastewater clients within the area. Participate as a member of the NY/NJ Area Water Business Group Leadership Team. Collaborate with Area Water Business Group Manager and Area Business Development Manager on market‑sector initiatives. Deploy pursuit strategies, business development tactics, and support client relationship development with proven capture techniques. Support selected pursuits through client relationship development, strategy, tactics, value‑added technical differentiation, and participation in pursuit activities. Actively participate in industry associations in leadership roles and serve as a company role‑model. Identify key investments in recruitment and technology to maintain or drive industry leadership. Monitor marketing capabilities and provide sector support to achieve area goals. Develop relationships with industry counterparts in other consulting and construction organizations. Develop relationships with senior leadership in key client organizations. Staff Development Responsibilities Provide sector input and support for area work‑sharing efforts within the East region and the broader Water Business Group. Partner with the East Region market sector leader, area and regional business class directors, and practice groups to drive technical excellence and coordinate technical staff for quality and the Drive to Zero initiative. Lead the area in identifying needs and opportunities for new and improved technical services and products. Coordinate staffing and recruiting plans for key hires; identify resource gaps and support talent management. Support to Key Program/Project Delivery Facilitate work sharing and efficient use of staff resources for projects. Assist with contract review to ensure risk management, proper staffing, quality reviews, and claim resolution. Engage in the PARR process to promote QA/QC and support local programs with technical expertise. Disseminate lessons learned. Take on Project Management and Principal in Charge assignments to drive client satisfaction, staff development, technical excellence, and mentoring opportunities. Preferred Qualifications BS in Engineering from an accredited university. Professional engineering registration in New York and/or New Jersey, or ability to obtain through reciprocity. 10+ years of experience in wastewater planning, design, and construction. Strong experience and client relationships in the NY/NJ wastewater market. Strong technical background in wastewater treatment systems. Experience in strategic positioning, technical differentiation, and client relationship management for planning or engineering services. Experience in staff development, recruiting, career path development, and professional growth. Active involvement in industry associations with an visible profile. Ability to work cooperatively with area and regional leadership and other business group managers and directors. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in an engineering, planning, or related field. Minimum of 10 years of industry experience. Experience in development and management of strategic marketing programs and client relationships. Experience in staff development, recruiting, and career path development. Experience with industry associations and maintaining a visible profile. Ability to work cooperatively with regional and market sector directors, business class directors, and area managers. Compensation ranges: New Jersey $165,000–$260,875; New York $182,613–$260,875.
