About the Position Lateral Police Officer position with the Grants Pass Police Department. A lateral officer must hold an active Oregon DPSST Police Officer certification or a current valid Police Officer certification from another state and have been employed as a certified Police Officer. Lateral Officers must meet Oregon DPSST physical requirements and the department’s requirements. Benefits & Incentives Base salary plus the following incentives (subject to verification): Associate Degree – 2.5% Bachelor Degree – 5% Second language – 1.25% DPSST Intermediate Certificate – 2.5% DPSST Advanced Certificate – 4.0% Associate and Bachelor Degree incentives are not cumulative. Lateral Officer Incentives: Signing Bonus – $1,000 at the time of hire for qualifying officers, upon meeting eligibility requirements and years of experience. Step at hire and accrual lump sums based on years worked as a sworn, full‑time officer (contact Human Resources for details). Qualifications Graduation from High School or GED and 1 year of work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform essential duties. Must be 21 years of age at time of hire. Meet physical standards as set by the Department of Public Safety on Standards and Training (DPSST). Current certified Police Officer in Oregon or another state with reciprocity. Residency requirement: within forty‑five (45) minutes from City limits as it exists within the Urban Growth Boundary (UGB).
