Department/Unit: Cardio-Respiratory Services Work Shift: Per Diem (United States of America) Salary Range: $70,068.00 - $108,605.00 The Registered Respiratory Therapist I (RT‑I) is an individual that is licensed by the NYS Department of Education to perform respiratory therapy procedures, cardio‑respiratory diagnostics, and patient assessment under the direction of a licensed physician. RT‑I’s are capable of assessing, treating, and caring for patients with breathing disorders. They assume primary responsibility for all respiratory care modalities, including the supervision of respiratory therapy technicians, initiate and conduct therapeutic procedures, maintain patient records, and select, assemble, check, and operate equipment. A successful candidate must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily as outlined in the annual competency assessment and must possess an active NYS license to practice Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Understand the hospital strategic plan within scope of Respiratory Therapist (RT‑I) expectation and role. Interpret and follow physicians’ orders. Triage workload and complete accordingly. Understand implications of new information for current and future problem‑solving and decision‑making. Represent Cardio‑Respiratory Services in support of the ideals and principles of the department and organizational culture. Exemplify Albany Med CARES guiding principles. Assist with onboarding of new staff and conduct department orientation. Promote patient and employee safety as the number one priority. Promote a safe environment for patients and staff. Understand Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals as they pertain to the Respiratory Therapist (RT‑I) role. Qualifications Associate’s Degree from an AMA‑approved program of Respiratory Care – required. 1‑3 years as an RRT in an academic medical center environment – required. 1‑3 years with patient transport (inter‑ and intra‑hospital) – required. 1‑3 years with emergency department procedures – preferred. 1‑3 years of exposure to the management of neonatal patients – preferred. 1‑3 years of pediatric and adult critical care experience – preferred. Must read, speak, comprehend, and write English. Must read documents such as physician orders and progress notes. Communicate cooperatively and effectively with customers and others in English (including children). Possess computer skills that allow navigation of the electronic medical record. Apply basic math skills (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing). Use simple algebraic skills for calculations. Add fractions and decimals (medication dosing). Perform the job in adherence to the highest standards of ethical conduct as defined by AMC’s Code of Conduct and the AARC’s Code of Ethics. Adhere to confidentiality standards (HIPAA). Maintain professional dress and demeanor to invoke confidence in customers. Accountable for own performance. Carry out written instructions (orders) furnished. Troubleshoot unclear or contradictory physician orders and conduct dialogue with physicians or other health providers. Prioritize emergent vs. non‑emergent requests for service.
