TKO Staffing is a contract staffing firm specializing in manufacturing and construction talent. We are recruiting an experienced Drafter III for our client, a heavy-duty truck manufacturer in East Texas. This opportunity is built for candidates who are ready to relocate. You start through TKO Staffing, and after a trial period of up to six months, the goal is to convert to a full-time, permanent position with our client. There is no cost to candidates.

How the temp-to-hire works

• You begin as a TKO Staffing employee, working on site for our client
• Over the first several months, you and the client get to see how the fit is working
• When it is a match, you move onto our client's payroll as a full-time, permanent employee
• Our client's benefits begin once you convert

About the role

You will provide drafting support for a manufacturing engineering team, turning markups, sketches, specifications and verbal instructions into detailed 3D models and production drawings. You will work with engineers and designers and also spend time on the plant floor with production teams. This is a hands-on role for someone who can model complex, multi-angle components, such as tubing routed in 3D space, and quickly take ownership of a key position.

Key responsibilities

• Develop detailed design drawings and specifications from markups and verbal instructions using SolidWorks and other CAD software
• Model and detail components and systems, including complex tubing and routing at varied angles
• Consult with engineers, designers and production employees to resolve design problems and keep projects on schedule
• Review specifications, sketches, drawings and related data to assess factors affecting component designs
• Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or reduce production problems
• Check material dimensions to ensure proper fit and function
• Draw schematic, orthographic and angle views showing how components, assemblies, systems and machines work together
• Keep current on CAD standards for drawing and bill of material (BOM) development
• Maintain the library of production drawings and bills of material as the central reference for all departments

Required qualifications

• Extensive SolidWorks (3D CAD) experience
• Strong mechanical background, preferably in heavy equipment, truck upfitting, or automotive manufacturing
• 4 to 7 years of related drafting experience
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, layouts and written or verbal instructions
• Experience with problem-solving methods such as 5 Why and root cause analysis
• Strong communication skills, including working directly with hourly production employees and leadership
• Solid PC skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Teams and Outlook
• Strong attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize several assignments at once in a fast-paced environment
• Willingness to relocate to the East Texas area

Preferred qualifications

• Associate's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent education
• Knowledge of manufacturing industry standards
• CAE software experience
• Structural, pneumatic or hydraulic design experience

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a 60-minute lunch.

Work environment

General office and engineering environment, with work on the plant floor as required. This position is on site. It is not remote.
