The Family Law Paralegal plays a critical role within a small family law firm, supporting attorneys, working with other paralegals by managing a caseload of over 80 cases. This role primarily involves handling divorce, separation, child custody and support, domestic violence, restraining orders, and paternity cases. The paralegal ensures efficient legal research, document preparation, court filings, and client communication to support trial preparation and case management, with limited travel for court appearances.
** Responsibilities **
- Conduct legal research pertinent to family law cases
- Prepare and draft legal documents including declarations and judicial counsel forms
- Manage communication with clients and opposing counsel
- Organize and manage a high volume of case files and evidence
- File documents with courts and maintain accurate case records using management software
- Support trial preparation efforts and extensive discovery processes
- Schedule appointments and hearings efficiently
- Maintain client confidentiality and ensure attention to detail in all tasks
** Required Qualifications **
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a family law paralegal
- Possess a paralegal certificate or equivalent experience
- Proficient in legal research and document drafting related to family law
- Familiarity with family law procedures and court rules
- Experience with case management software
- Strong client communication and organizational skills
- Ability to manage time effectively and work independently
- Close attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality
Excellent legal writing skills
