Custodian I

SUMMARY Perform cleaning and sanitation and general upkeep tasks in and around a large classroom building. Full-time, first or second shift. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment and safety procedures commonly used in custodial work. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. High school diploma/GED. Ability to lift 50 pounds or more occasionally and perform a variety of routine custodial tasks which include bending, climbing and walking. Must be accessible by phone on 24-hour call and available to answer after-hours alarm calls. A current NYS driver license with a clean driving record for the previous 18 months is very helpful but not required. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Scrub, mop, wax, sweep, polish or vacuum classrooms, offices and hallways as appropriate on a daily basis. Shampoo carpets when needed. Dust and polish furniture and woodwork, and wash windows and blinds as needed. Wash and sanitize toilets, washrooms, and bathroom fixtures daily. Refill soap, toilet tissue and paper towel dispensers as needed. Collect and dispose of rubbish and recyclables daily. Periodically clean and wash high areas including ceiling light fixtures, room ventilation apparatus, walls, and wastebaskets. Paint walls and/or ceilings on an as-needed basis. Move desks, chairs and other furniture and equipment occasionally as directed. Complete daily and monthly logs as required. EOE/AA/M/F/D/V #J-18808-Ljbffr
