Overview Metropolitan Police Department Police Officer Metropolitan Police Department Officers (MPD) will provide protective services for the patients, families, staff, and property of Children's National Health System (CNHS). As directed, CNHS MPD Officers respond to emergency situations while enforcing the hospital policies and in accordance with the laws of the District of Columbia. Department personnel must maintain a tactful and courteous demeanor in the exercising of duties. They will perform access control using state-of-the-art technology to ensure the safety of patients and will patrol the location assigned to proactively identify risks to the hospital. The primary areas of responsibilities are the Emergency Departments. They frequently work with medical professionals to advance patient safety and support CNHS Special Police Officers with detention and/or arrest of individuals in violation of DC law. Responsibilities Perform productive security patrols of the hospital, garage and perimeter; recognize conditions which are or will compromise security and/or safety and take immediate action to mitigate; proactively and consistently submit work orders to correct safety/security violations discovered during patrols. Immediately notify supervisors of security/safety-related problems or issues. Take proactive measures to mitigate thefts, disturbances and other criminal incidents. Check that visitors and staff members are wearing proper identification badges/passes; identify visitors and proactively address issues with non-compliance; adhere to policies regarding management and processing of visitors to the hospital. Adhere to post orders for all fixed and patrol positions. Ensure timely and appropriate response for emergency situations; follow applicable policies, procedures and directives according to the specifics of the emergency; de-escalate disruptive behavior and maintain control of emotions. Promote safety for patients, families, visitors, and co-workers; communicate clearly and timely, both verbally and in writing. Speak up when team members exhibit unsafe behavior or performance; validate information needed for decision making and documentation; take time to resolve uncertain situations. Attend carefully to important details and practice Stop, Think, Act and Review to self-check behavior and performance. Qualifications Minimum Education : High School Diploma or GED (Required) Minimum Work Experience : 2 years as a police officer in good standing with the Metropolitan Police Department in the District of Columbia (Required) Required Skills/Knowledge : Effective oral and written communication skills Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods Ability to climb stairs in response to emergency situations Must wear complete Metropolitan Police Department issued uniform, including carrying department issued radio while on duty Ability to work outdoors if necessary Ability to handle volatile situations under stressful conditions Familiarity with Microsoft Office Excellent customer service skills Knowledge of the criminal code in Washington, DC Experience working as an emergency responder (law enforcement, fire/rescue, military) Required Licenses And Certifications : Sworn police officer in the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia (Required) Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) (Required) Functional Accountabilities Safety : Perform productive security patrols of the hospital, garage and perimeter; recognize conditions which are or will compromise the security and/or safety of the organization and take immediate action to mitigate; proactively and consistently submit work orders to correct safety/security violations discovered during patrols. Operational Excellence : Actively promote safety for patients, families, visitors and co-workers. Communicate clearly, accurately and timely in both verbal and written forms.
