UNC Hospitals Department of Audiology is seeking a full-time Audiologist II - Clinical Specialist to provide advanced outpatient audiology services primarily for the adult patient population across multiple locations, including: Orange County: UNC Hospitals Hearing & Voice Clinic at Carolina Crossing Chatham County: UNC Hospitals Audiology at Pittsboro Wake County: UNC Audiology Services at Cary We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced audiologist with at least five years of experience as an audiologist to serve as an Audiologist II - Clinical Specialist in a busy academic medical center setting. This advanced clinical role will provide a full range of diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology services, with a focus on the assessment and management of hearing loss, including evaluation, fitting, and programming of hearing aids and cochlear implants (with prior experience). The Audiologist II will practice independently, serve as an audiology consultant and clinical resource, and contribute to staff training, continuing education, and ongoing improvement of patient care services. The Audiologist II - Clinical Specialist is expected to provide patient services independently, demonstrate strong collaborative communication skills, serve as an audiology consultant and clinical resource, and contribute to staff education and continued improvement of patient care services. Responsibilities: Perform comprehensive diagnostic audiologic evaluations across the lifespan, selecting and administering the test battery most appropriate for the patient’s age, developmental level, and cognitive function Interpret diagnostic test findings accurately and develop patient-centered treatment and management recommendations Counsel patients and families regarding hearing loss, communication needs, treatment options, and rehabilitative management strategies Plan and provide ongoing rehabilitative management for hearing aid and cochlear implant users, including programming, troubleshooting, follow-up care, and periodic reevaluation Conduct hearing aid evaluations and verification of hearing aid fittings using best-practice technology Administer comprehensive cochlear implant evaluations, including aided speech perception testing, and determine candidacy for implantable hearing technologies Counsel patients on implantable technology options, function, management, and realistic expectations Perform specialized diagnostic testing for cochlear implant devices in both clinical and OR settings Program and manage all available implantable devices in the adult population Serve as an audiology consultant and clinical resource to medical, educational, and other professional services, including consultation with referring physicians and interdisciplinary partners as needed Coordinate and prioritize patient care efficiently and provide high-quality clinical services independently without the need for direct supervision Identify opportunities to improve patient care, develop new services, and enhance clinical techniques; provide recommendations to Audiology Leadership Maintain current professional knowledge and skills and participate in staff training, team continuing education, clinical teaching, and research activities as appropriate Other Information Other information: Education Requirements: Doctorate degree in Audiology Licensure/Certification Requirements: Licensed as an Audiologist by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists. BLS within 3 months of hire date. Professional Experience Requirements: Five (5) years of experience as an audiologist. Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements: Advanced level clinical skills as evidenced by specialty certifications, additional training and/or expertise in a given clinical specialty. Demonstrated proficiency in comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology, including hearing aids and specialized audiologic testing; experience with cochlear implants and other implantable hearing technologies preferred Exhibits effective communication and interprofessional skills; ability to work closely with multidisciplinary teams to maximize patient outcomes.
