Phlebotomist, Outpatient - Full-Time, Day Shift

Job Description Be a part of a world‑class academic healthcare system, University of Chicago Medicine, as a Phlebotomist in the Nursing Outpatient Phlebotomy department. This position is 100 % onsite and requires the candidate to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. Location Hyde Park, Chicago (UChicago Medicine, DCAM/Hyde Park campus). Essential Job Functions Perform venipuncture and skin punctures with expertise using Epic Beaker/Rover and in a customer‑service‑oriented fashion, adhering to all established policies and procedures. Properly package specimens for delivery through the pneumatic tube system and hand‑deliver as required. Provide collection instructions to patients and receive self‑collected samples (e.g., urine). Check‑in patients and assist to the draw room as needed. Stock blood‑drawing area/carts and keep areas clean, safe, and sterile. Address patient order issues, communicate collection issues with clinic staff, and handle interactions with other hospital staff. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited phlebotomy program. Ability to perform venipunctures and capillary punctures according to CLSI guidelines. Thorough knowledge of asepsis; manual dexterity and accuracy. Ability to follow directions and established procedures with attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to use institutional computer systems. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to document tasks accurately. Ability to perform in stressful situations; handle large volumes of patients within narrow timeframes. Physical capability to stand, stoop, push, lift and walk distances up to 6 city blocks. Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment. Preferred Qualifications Phlebotomy (ASCP) certification/eligibility. One to two years of practical phlebotomy experience with references.
