Honing Machine Operator Trainee (Skilled Trade)

We are seeking a motivated machine operator trainee to join our precision manufacturing team. This is an opportunity to learn a highly skilled trade aligned with manual machining. Honing is both a science and an art — it requires focus, patience, and developing the "feel" for precision work. This position involves working with extremely tight tolerances and very small components. Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail are critical. This is a high-overtime position. Candidates MUST be seeking and willing to work extended hours.

Schedule & Overtime

• Monday–Friday, typically 10-hour days
• Average 55–65 hours per week
• Overtime may include Saturdays
• Start time typically 6:00 AM (may extend to 4:30 PM or later on short notice)

Responsibilities

• Train to set up and operate Sunnen honing machines
• Learn to hone parts to extremely close tolerances
• Read and interpret complex blueprints
• Measure parts using air gauges and precision measurement tools
• Perform match assemblies and finish deburring
• Follow detailed work instructions
• Maintain focus during repetitive, precision-based tasks
• Work with hands in oil and stand for extended periods

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of related manufacturing or mechanical experience (manual machining preferred)
• Related military experience considered
• Experience working with close tolerances
• Strong manual dexterity
• Ability to read a tape measure to 1/16" and 1/32"
• Mechanically inclined; comfortable using hand tools and basic cutting equipment
• Basic PC skills
• Strong communication and willingness to learn
• Background check and drug test required
